“Great location but very small & dark rooms!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

Booked a trip room which was a small twin room with another bed in it. The entrance (as well as the photo's) to the hotel gives the impression of the place being fairly modern, but once inside its really just had a lick of paint and some false (black painted office panel) ceilings inserted.

The staff were helpful and very friendly ... the location was excellent, especially as it was -6 and we didn't really want to walk far which is a major plus for this hotel. From what I could see, the hotel didn't have any facilities ... a vending machine in the soulless 'lobby' (an uninviting room with a few chairs in it) where drinks of water and coke were 2 euro's a can.

The room was very cramped and had one single halogen light in the ceiling, presumably to save on electricity. There was also two small lamps, one of which didn't work. There was no iron so I borrowed one from reception ... the ironing board in the room was as much use as a chocolate teapot being about 50cm long with legs about 10cm which wouldn't enable it to stand up. I would have been fine for a midget or as a childs toy ...

“Very good location and good price”

I have been to Amsterdam the week end before the real winter came.

This is a very good location because it is 50 meters close to Rijskmuseum and inside the best shopping street.

It's achievable walking or by bus/tram. If you get tram number 5, you'll get Dam Square in just seven minutes.

The hotel offers free wifi, LCD tv and a very interesting breakfast (check if it is included in your booking, because it costs 9,50 euros).

The room it is a little bit small, but it offers the standard amenities, but nope the fridge with the drinks.

So, I suggest this hotel to everybody.

Enjoy your holidays.

Roberto

“Excellent location, comfortable hotel but take a torch!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

Three of us shared a room in this hotel for two nights in January.

First of all, the location is fantastic, close to the Rijksmuseum and the Leidensplein (for food & drink) and on the Amsterdam equivalent of Bond Street. We took the train from the airport to Amsterdam Zuid (2.50 Euros from the machine, 10 minutes) and then the 5 tram, direction Amsterdam Centraal, 7 stops (we had bought 48 hour tram passes from the tourist information in the airport).

Checking in was fine, the receptionist had a good sense of humour and all the staff there seemed friendly and very helpful.

The stairs are horrendously steep but there is a lift. Our room was a triple, basically it was a room with three beds in it (and a TV on the wall, we never did find the remote control). It had dark walls, a black carpet, black curtains and black bed covers. And one inset bulb in the ceiling and two bedside lamps. I had to get out my pocket torch to read the instructions for the safe, not that I ever got it to work. If any of us had dropped a black thing (like a sock) we would probably never have seen it again, it was rather depressing.

The beds were comfortable, the room was warm, the hot water was scorching. Unfortunately the other hotel guests were not considerate, we were woken both nights by other guests either going to bed in the early hours or, on the second morning just before 6am, what sounded like some kind of tour group jog around the second and third floors of the hotel. Not the hotel´s fault of course.

We didn´t have breakfast, on the internet it had been offered to us at 15 euros a head a night and so we thought we could do better. When we arrived at the hotel, we were offered it at 9.50 euros a head. We were able to buy a bagel and coffee around the corner for around 6 euros.

The reception is staffed 24 hours a day and there is a luggage room to store your luggage the day you leave. I would recommend this hotel, its very good value for money.

Room Tip: Away from the stairs so less people pass your door!

“Great hotel, Fantastic location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 January 2012

Loved the interior of the hotel. Rooms are really a sufficient size. Bigger than expected. Quite hotel overall. Hotel very clean. Rooms a bit dark, maybe some lights to do one's make-up will do. The staff are extreamly helpful and friendly. It was really very good value for money. Only one tram stop away from Leidsplein. Near enough for one to go back during the day to take back you shopping and take a quick shower. Our tv worked for one day, we reported the problem, they sorted it out, and the next 2 days we had the same problem with the tv. But it was not the end of the world. We could at least listen to a music channel. I would any day book at this hotel again. And already planning on doing so for my next trip this year (2012). Would highly recommend this hotel.

“Small dark rooms on a good location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

I stayed at Robert Ramon during a conference in september. I stayed there with a group that made it obvious that the rooms are very different from each other. What they have in common are that they are very small and very dark. But clean though. My single room felt a bit like a wardrobe, but was away from the bigger street and quite quiet at night, the opposite with the rooms on the other side. The breakfast was ok, not more. But the location of the hotel is perfect, just a few minutes walk from Rijksmuseum and Vondelpark.
