“We most highly recommend de Palatijn Alkmaar”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 June 2010

My son is also my caregiver as I am dependent on a wa;lker and/or a scooter. Our stay was enhanced not only by the comfortable accomodations, but by the courteous snd friendly staff both in the lobby and the restaurant.

In an earlier email, I had sent compliments to the restaurant staff for providing us with a "Care Package" of sandwiches to hold us over as the Schipol airport was completely closed to in and out flights because of the volcanic ash.

I am sending three photos of one our dinners there. I forgot the name of the entre'. Would you email me an answer? Thank you Eugene Goselin

“Nice stay”

Although the hotel is a bit out of the way, we rented bikes and the hotel have a shed where we were able to keep the bikes overnight, which was a very good service. We were disappointed that the hotel would be charging for the service of arranging for us to have bikes -it was then cheaper to arrange the bikes ourselves directly. I didn´t think that the receptionists were very helpful but the restaurant staff were britlliant. There are no restaurants around the area, which was not great at times when it was raining or we were just exhausted from a day of cycling about. There is a shower but no bath, which I think it´s a down point. The rooms have a little sink and kitchen area, which is actually a nice thing to have. I think I would look for a more local hotel next time or renting a flat.

“Suitable for disabled/comfortable”

We have just returned from a week in the Hotel De Palatijn Alkmaar. We enjoyed our stay.My partner is a wheelchair user and we found the room really good, spacious and adapted well for disabled peoples use.The Hotel caters for disabled people and for people who are convalesing after illness as well as people who are healthy. We did not feel however that we were in a hospital atmosphere. The food is good, tasty and well presented. If we had any complaint it would be the fact that the menu was not always availible in English. There is a lovely canal at the rear of the Hotel and a garden where you can sit and relax.Alkmaar is about a 20 minute walk through a nice residental area. The town is lovely, all canals and paved streets. We were really impressed and will probably return.Getting to Alkmaar from the Airport was a problem. We had understood that assistance would be availible at the railway ststions provided this was booked 24hours in advance. In practice this did not go smoothly and we had a few worrying, stressful moments.Better to book a taxi! Also I think about five days is enough. We are in our 60s and limited about travel and it did become monotonous walking about Alkmaar.Still I would recommend the town and the hotel.

  • Liked — comfortable,clean good food.Suitable for wheelchair users.
  • Disliked — There were not enough waiters and waitresses and the service could have been better.

“pleasant stay at the Palatijn”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 August 2007

The hotel is modern & clean and the rooms are spacious and nicely furnished. We really liked the "wetroom" bathroom arrangement. The hotel is particularly suited to disabled clients with wide doors and a large capacity lift. The staff are very friendly and helpful and most have a good command of english which is great as our dutch is not very good.

The hotel is situated to the south of the town , just off the ring road near the AZ Alkmaar stadium so is easy to find. The walk into the town centre takes about 15 minutes through a very pleasant residential area.
We would definitely stay again if we were in the area.
