“Value for money, you need to have your own car though”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 September 2009

The hotel is in the town of Heemskerk, which is a 30 minute drive away frm Amsterdam. The main town of Heemskerk was a 5 minute drive away, it had everything - supermarkets, restaurants, take away places, pubs, etc. We drove to the park and ride Arena Transferium every time we needed to go to Amsterdam. It was 6 euros for parking and a round trip ticket to Amsterdam Centraal station.

The hotel itself was very comfortable. It was a great value for money. We didn't try the breakfast, because at 17 euros per person, it seemed overpriced.

The staff were extremely friendly. We wanted to order pizzas for the first night and the lady at the reception desk helped us out by giving us access to her computer to look up the menu.

The area is beautiful - if you are interested in taking a walk in the morning or evening.

The only downside is the car park - it tends to fill up quite easily and it is a hassle to park after 10 PM, simply because there aren't enough spaces available.

The Wijk aan Zee beach is 10 minutes away.

The room sizes are quite generous for european standards. Some rooms also have a balcony.

“Loved it”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 March 2007

Just stayed here at the weekend, the reason was to attend an event in Heemskerk (I think I'd have been rather annoyed if I'd booked it as an 'Amsterdam' city break), the hotel is only about 8 minutes walk from the town centre so the location was perfect for us but I'd have to agree with a previous reviewer that it isn't too handy from Heemskerk train station. A better option may be Castricum train station, about the same distance from the hotel as Heemskerk but you can get a bus from there to the entrance to the driveway of the hotel.

Couldn't fault the hotel itself, set in lovely grounds it was very clean and fresh, and the bed was one of the most comfortable I've slept in. Great to have tea and coffee making facilities, first time I've had this in a Dutch hotel, and the fridge was handy.

Breakfast was superb, lots of choice and all very fresh and the staff were lovely.

Not sure if I'll be back in Heemskerk but would certainly look forward to staying in this hotel again.

“If you are under 40, then AVOID!!!!!!”

My girlfriend and I booked this through Fleetway Travel as an Amsterdam city break.
We got to Schipol airport train station to discover that it is actually over an hour away from Amsterdam.
Finally got to Heemskerk Station (which is possibly THE REMOTEST STATION IN THE WORLD) to discover that there is no bus or taxi link from this station. Had to go back to the previous station and then spend 25 euros to get to the hotel. Now, be warned - this is not what it looks like on the website. Its nothing like it. Its rated as a 4 star by Fleetway, but personally, I think it is pushing a 3 star at most!! (just my opinion mind!!)
It is miles away from anywhere, and will cost you a fortune if you plan on going anywhere other than the immediate vicinity.
It is, in my opinion, best suited to older couples that want to walk around a real slice of Holland, it is not suitable for anyone that plans on visiting Amsterdam, or younger couples / singles.
Oh, also, we booked a double room, but got a twin with two small beds pushed together, and 2 small duvets... Not happy. Hope this helps.

“nothing like the advert but still a pleasent stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 October 2006

Well let me start by saying... if you've looked at and like the hotels photo's on the web then think again. I have included a few photo's of my own as only one of the websites photo's is actually of the hotel.

I did book this hotel because of the lovely pictures and when i arrived it worried me that I was at the wrong hotel!

That being said, I had a very pleasent stay. The bedrooms are comfortable although I did request a double bed and got 2 singles pushed together ( I hate falling down the gap in the middle). The bathroom was nice and the comforts ie kettle, tv , towels etc were all good.

The breakfast was lovely... a buffet of all you could think of from fruit to fry-up (dutch bacon is fried ham slices) fresh coffee, tea in many flavours and juices galore! The breakfast room is nice and cosy and the staff are very friendly. Breakfast times are 7 - 9.30 mon to fri and 8 - 10.30 sat and sun ( after staying the weekend we came down to breakfast at a quatre to ten on the monday and the staff brought out all the buffet just for us ).

To get to the hotel from Schiphol airport you can get a taxi for appx 50 euro's or for a fraction of the price go by public transport which is easy. You'll need to get a train from platform 2 to Amsterdam Sloterdjick then change onto a train towards Alkmaar and get off at Castricum ( 3rd or fourth stop ), from castricum station you can catch a 167 or 168 bus to Marquettelaan (pronounced Mar-ketter-lan and run every half hour) the bus stop is out of the station and turn left ask the driver to point out the hotel as he passes it and the stop is 50 metres up the road from the drive. The train fare was about 6 euro's and the bus 1.5 euro's.

  • Liked — peace and quiet, good food, comfortable room
  • Disliked — in the middle of nowhere! (poor lighting down drive to hotel at night)

“Wonderful out of the way hotel”

I have stayed at the NH Chateau Marquette several times for business, and while it is not the most luxurious hotel, it is a wonderful find. The staff is beyond friendly and the town of Heemskerk is very quaint. The hotel is just 5km from the North Sea and a quick bike ride (bikes provided by hotel) from the beautiful dune reserve. It is even quicker to pop into town to grab a bite or do a little shopping. The grounds are beautiful. Enjoy a stay.
