We have stayed many times at this hotel, mainly because it is very nicely and quietly located. The sea is fairly close, the town centre offers plenty of shops and cafés, by train from Heemskerk or Castricum stations, there are good connections for touring the Netherlands.
The hotel is a strange mixture:
Once, this was a very elegant setting. The original interior is pretty worn now, though, and decoration is either in very dark or neon colours, which doesn't fit with the original design in cream, burgundy and dark green shades. In several rooms, the upper curtains have been removed. Clumsy paintings (selfmade artist??) are also scattered around. Very odd indeed.
The staff is very dedicated, friendly and welcoming. Particular the reception, the restaurant and the bar feature people who like to make guests feel at home and very much at ease. They are very well mannered, kind and positive.
Strangely, the hotel management is quite absent in the daily routines and it is not even clear where to find the hotel manager!
The chateau next door also provides excellent dining facilities (when open) at an acceptable price level. The food is well prepared, nicely served and of very good quality.
Breakfast is quite expensive if booked separately and the selection is too limited for that. The cooked breakfast is usually of poor quality, alas.
Housekeeping is attentive and performing very professionally.
