“Not bad but not great either”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 November 2010 via mobile

As they would say in Ireland this hotel is midlen (middle of the road). Not bad but certainly not great either. The only good thing going for this hotel is the free wifi access and the decent breakfast. Maybe it's a Dutch thing that they don't go the extra mile when it comes to hotels. The last hotel I stayed in Holland was a disaster. This was much better but again it could have been a whole lot better. One thing that really cheezes me off is rooms that are sold as double and are really two single beds pushed together. Apparently all the rooms were like this.

“Charming hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 September 2010

This hotel is housed in an attractive, villa-style building, and is situated on the outskirts of the city of Tilburg in quiet park-like surroundings.
The rooms are well-appointed and well suited for discerning travellers.
The hotel has a nice restaurant.
It offers good value for money.

“Nice calm location but nothing special”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 July 2010

The main reason to stay at Auberge du Bonheur is probably the quiet location, close to the woods (and the University). The hotel itself is nothing special, the rooms are rather standard but no complaints. They do try their best to make the rooms and the hotel get an old-fashioned feel but it is apparent that the hotel is pretty newly built.

The rooms have plenty of room to sit down and work and there are also few extra chairs in the room. There is also flat screen TV and free wireless internet which is of course nice. The negative was the small and rather uncomfortable beds. I did not particularly like the design style but that is more a matter of taste (I am more of fan of modern, simple design).

The hotel is located a bit outside Tilburg so a car is preferable to get to/from the hotel. I would however recommend renting a bicycle at the hotel to go exploring the surrounding area - it is not that far by bike to the downtown area were there are plenty of bars, restaurants etc. The hotel also has a good restaurant (a bit pricey) and there is a nice terrace where it is possible to sit down and enjoy a drink.

Breakfast is standard and nothing special. A bit slow service as some others have noted, not a problem unless one is in a hurry (which I unfortunately often am during weekdays).

The rates during summer (and also the part of winter when University students are off) are very good. The rest of the year it is a bit more expensive so not really worth it (and the hotel is at its best during summer).

“Good value hotel in pleasant surroundings”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 September 2009

We booked this hotel using the internet. My wife and I were looking for somewhere to stop en route between France and the port of Ijmuiden. The hotel was easy to find using the directions provided on the web. The car park is open to the public and we were advised to remove valuables from view when leaving the car. The reception staff were most helpful and polite. The rooms were well presented with all the usual trimmings. As we had been travelling all day we did not dine in the restuarant but had a small meal in the bar area. The food was very nice and when watching the waiters go past with the food bound for the restuarant we would most definitely book a table if we were returning to the hotel. Breakfast in the morning was typically "Dutch" and of a high standard. unlimited coffee was most welcome. The hotel is situated on the outskirts of Tilburg and you would need to drive to explore the area. We would return there without hesitation

“Nice Place Tucked Away”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2009

Auberge du Bonheur offers a clean, decent-sized room with a fair breakfast buffet. The hotel's restaurant is quite expensive which would be ok if there were also several other dining options in walking distance (There aren't.). It is tucked away in a quaint, wooded area not too far away from the University with a walking path but it is much easier to get to anything else in town with a car.

  • Liked — Clean and quiet
  • Disliked — Too far away from nearly everything
