“Nice place close to the University”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

This is a nice little place half a km from Tilburg University. The restaurant is in an old house, the hotel rooms are in a modern building next door. I did not recognize the complaints made by other reviewers: service was nice and attentive, lights in the room were fine, including reading lights next to the bed and to the writing desk.

The bathroom looks brand-new and the wireless internet connection was automatic, with no extra charge. My room also had a flat screen TV and a well-stocked mini-bar. The wall paper has been there a while longer than the paint job in the ceiling and the new carpeting.

The double bed did have two separate mattresses next two each other... This, unfortunately for my personal preference, is rather common in The Netherlands. Apparently many couples in NL prefer the "independence" of separate mattresses. It shows in many hotels and even in furniture shops, where many "double" beds have two mattresses instead of a king-size. Still, most hotels in Amsterdam and Rotterdam have king-size beds as an option, but once you get to the smaller towns (like Tilburg) you are more likely to find these two-mattress beds.

The hotel is at the edge of a forest, but close to a busy road. The noise level at night is equivalent to what you might expect from a downtown hotel. It didn't bother me, but if you're a light sleeper, you might find it annoying. There's double-glazed glass in the windows, but some noise seeps in through the ventilation ducts and window frame.

“The best in the area”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

Stayed here a number of years ago, and it is still the best hotel in the area. It is a lovely location outside of town near the woods, staff are very helpful. Rooms are nice and so is breakfast.

“perfectly pleasant stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 December 2011

Was not bad to stay here two nights, breakfast was good, restaurant was very nice to have breakfast in, don't know if other meals were good or not as the Saturday night we were there the entire restaurant was booked for a wedding party, so we never got to eat there, went to the Wolfslair Restaurant instead outside of Breda, lovely and gourmet and expensive but we like it that way. Our room was very quiet even with the wedding going on, it looked out on the forest and was comfortable with big easy chairs, tub chairs. Terrace for drinks, and coffee and tea.

Room Tip: not a bad choice, price for value is good

“Not a Good Choice”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 November 2011

So I thought I had seen everything, until I arrived at the Auberge and was put into what was described as their "best" room--which had no closet! It had three decorative hooks on the wall by the door which one could use to hang a very few hangers on. A hotel room without a closet--truly a first. But the biggest problem with this hotel was the noise. One could hear doors banging/closing not only one's own floor but all over the hotel. And the hotel fronts a busy road. And the hotel is, of course, near nothing except the university (which is why i was staying there). Nice people and the room was nicely decorated. But otherwise, not a good choice.

“Excellent Value for Money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 October 2011

Just outside the inner city of Tilburg (3km) Auberge du Bonheur is beautifully situated in a green area. The rooms are comfortable and clean. The food in the restaurant is excellent.
The prizes for the rooms are surprisingly low!
For me as a Tilburg citizen it's clear this Hotel is by far the best choice to stay if you want to visit the city even though it's located slightly off center.
