I was booked into this hotel for a work trip and read the reviews in advance. The classic rooms seemed to get the worst deal but I went there with an open mind.
The location is great, a 10min walk to the city centre through a park (though maybe not at night) and right by the station. Checkin service was friendly. That is pretty much where the positives stop.
The Room
The room was just not very good at all. The furniture was chipped and damaged, it was a twin rather than a double, and the noise from the train platforms (10metres away) was disruptive.
The bathroom was awful. It had a shower curtain (in a 4 star in 2011????) which didn't seem very clean, incredibly dirty grouting, rust around the tap, limescale on the tap, broken lights.... It was just not good.
Also the windows can't open - so while you have your own personal aircon, it's no fresh air.
Plugs - they were all unearthed I think (whichever the ones were that you no longer have, the plugs were very old school) and the only plug that would take my travel plug was the one in the bathroom. Not how I wanted to charge my phone, in the sink!
My travelling companion had his bag stolen on the journey here and we needed an email printed urgently. We asked reception if we could do this via accessing a website on their PC, but we could only do this by sending them the email. Fair enough. After having done that and they printed it out, imagine our disbelief when they wanted to charge us 20 cent per page for a plain black and white printout! We asked them if they were being serious, we had our bag stolen and they wanted to charge us about €1 for a print? In the end they relented and did not charge us, but it just left a sour taste.
Did not have breakfast so can't comment, but all in all it was just a room in dire need of refurbishment. Apparently the newer side is better but I wouldn't go back to try after this, especially not for the prices they charge. Rooms definitely not of a 4 star standard. 3, at best.
Room Tip: Don't stay in a Classic Room if you are a light sleeper.
