“Good Hotel -Value for Money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

Good easy and sweet 2 nights and again with Pleasant ambience ,easy, acess ,very clean rooms, excellent price/quality ratio, great team of staff members and a rich breakfast.

Good location directly next to train station and 10 minute walk to city center. Nothing really fancy, but clean, comfortable rooms and nice staff. For €80 a night for 2 including breakfast I think this was a good deal.Only small request to add Room Wifi in same rate to make effortless repeat customer

Room Tip: Any Room same Quality

“Shabby, not a 4 star, and overpriced”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 November 2011

I was booked into this hotel for a work trip and read the reviews in advance. The classic rooms seemed to get the worst deal but I went there with an open mind.

The location is great, a 10min walk to the city centre through a park (though maybe not at night) and right by the station. Checkin service was friendly. That is pretty much where the positives stop.

The Room
The room was just not very good at all. The furniture was chipped and damaged, it was a twin rather than a double, and the noise from the train platforms (10metres away) was disruptive.
The bathroom was awful. It had a shower curtain (in a 4 star in 2011????) which didn't seem very clean, incredibly dirty grouting, rust around the tap, limescale on the tap, broken lights.... It was just not good.
Also the windows can't open - so while you have your own personal aircon, it's no fresh air.
Plugs - they were all unearthed I think (whichever the ones were that you no longer have, the plugs were very old school) and the only plug that would take my travel plug was the one in the bathroom. Not how I wanted to charge my phone, in the sink!

My travelling companion had his bag stolen on the journey here and we needed an email printed urgently. We asked reception if we could do this via accessing a website on their PC, but we could only do this by sending them the email. Fair enough. After having done that and they printed it out, imagine our disbelief when they wanted to charge us 20 cent per page for a plain black and white printout! We asked them if they were being serious, we had our bag stolen and they wanted to charge us about €1 for a print? In the end they relented and did not charge us, but it just left a sour taste.

Did not have breakfast so can't comment, but all in all it was just a room in dire need of refurbishment. Apparently the newer side is better but I wouldn't go back to try after this, especially not for the prices they charge. Rooms definitely not of a 4 star standard. 3, at best.

Room Tip: Don't stay in a Classic Room if you are a light sleeper.

Two nights and again of TOP quality. Checking in on top speed, very clean rooms, excellent price/quality ratio, great team of staff members and a rich breakfast.
In superlative degree; King, Keyser, Apollo.

Thanks again for your true hospitality.

One remark remains; free wifi in the rooms please.

“Location is the main strength, some rooms very old & extra charges for everything”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 September 2011

This was my second stay at the Apollo but since it was around a year ago since my previous visit and I now stayed in a so called 'classic' room I though I would review it again. The location is still good, right by the railway station. This time I had room facing the tracks but I was still not disturbed by any passing trains (it should however be noted that I am heavy sleeper so may be different for others). It is about a10 minute walk away from the main part of the city center but it is still a good location.

Just as last time I was here the service was a bit slow. Only one person at the front desk (this appears to be the case irrespective of whether there are many people waiting or no one at all). Once one is actually being helped the service is however pleasant and friendly.

The 'classic' rooms are to be honest not very nice. The term classic just means that it has not been renovated in the past 15-20 years. The furniture is worn and old (and not in the charming way). The TV barely worked (not really good enough to watch). The room lacked everything except for the basics (so no iron, ironing board, an empty minibar (can be filled with your own things - could be good for people staying longer but it was not plugged in so will take some time to get it cold). The lighting was insufficient (not possible to get good light when working. There were no electrical outlets available to charge the phone (may have been hidden somewhere but nothing found around desk or by the beds).

In general things were however clean but the overall experience was still that it is really overdue for a remake. The bathroom did also not have any shampoo which should be natural to offer (only soap and body wash was available). They now also charge €12,5 per day for the wifi (in the room). It is still free in the lobby and restaurant but extremely expensive to charge that much for access in the room. I did once again not have breakfast so cannot really comment on it.

To summarize the classic rooms are not really pleasant to stay in and even if the rate is decent I would stay elsewhere.
