It’s a relatively big hotel conveniently located at the motorway. The restaurant was unfortunately closed when we arrived, but we could order some food in the bar. The food was good for bar food, the challenge was to find somebody to take our order. The next night we found out that we had to re-activate our room keys, despite the fact that we had booked several nights stay. That was a bit odd and unfortunately inconvenient as there was a travel group checking in just when we wanted to inquire why all our room keys didn’t work when we came in late at night.
Breakfast buffet was great with plenty of choice, good coffee and fresh rolls and pastries etc.
My room smelled unfortunately of smoke. I’m not sure if it was just recently turned into a non-smoking room or if the guest before me ignored the non-smoking sign in the room. That and the really slow service were the only minor negative comments I would have about this place. Otherwise it’s a good hotel if you ever need to stay in Venlo.

We had a very good experience at this hotel. There is plenty of parking. The hotel is modestly priced and the staff is professional. The rooms are nothing fancy, but the shower was very good. My only complaint about the room is that there was no in-room coffee machine. The breakfast was very good, in fact, it was good enough for the VVV Venlo professional soccer team, who were also there breakfasting with us. There is a nearby gym that is free for guests, but it is not 24-hour. I had only one other issue: After visiting the casino late (Holland Casino Venlo), we found that the gate to the hotel parking was closed. There was an intercom and they opened the gate, but I had to get out of the car to call in. There should be an intercom accessible from the vehicle. Fortunately it was not raining. Otherwise, good value for money.

I stayed here for two nights whilst on business in Venlo. The hotel is clean and comfortable and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The rooms are more like Travel Lodge than a 4 star hotel but clean and comfortable - the major downside being that there are no facilities for making tea or coffee in the room and my double bed was actually two singles pushed together with two single duvets.
The bar and restaurant are lovely and the breakfast is absolutely fabulous, perhaps a little overpriced but the room rate was so cheap that it kind of balanced out.
Overall I would say that this is a convenient place to stay if on business in Venlo or if needing a stop over but probably not somewhere I would go for leisure.

I have stayed at this hotel regularly over the last six years as do many colleagues of mine. This hotel is one of the better choices in Venlo together De Bovenste Molen and Chateau De Raay. What I like are the relatively good rooms, the bar that has a nice atmosphere and different possibilities to sit down, and the restaurant albeit it's of course Van der Valk but as eveyone knows you will get value for money. The staff, however, are a continuous challenge. In all these years I have always experienced rather unfriendly and/or uninterested service at the bar, from different people which is interesting. In the restaurant, unexperienced staff is more of a rule than an exception. All in all I never mind staying here.
