We needed to be in Dusseldorf for a big trade exhibition at Messe Dusseldorf. Hotels near the venue were outrageously expensive, so stayed here as an alternative. 75 Euros a night instead of hundreds of Euros a night.
Location, just outside Venlo near the E34 (A67) almost on the German border. Not in town centre, in a business park. Convenient for main routes. A car is essential.
The hotel is in a fairly pleasant and safe business park of mostly offices. If you are familiar with Campanile hotels then you will know exactly what to expect. Rooms are in a two level block, and the doors to all rooms are outside, not on a corridor. Rooms have beds, TV, Toilet & Bathroom, kettle with tea & coffee, and FREE wireless internet in the rooms without any need for logins or passwords ! Beds were comfy, and outside wind-down blinds meant no disturbance from the nearby road. My wife described the room as “cosy”.
Reception and bar/restaurant are in a separate building. Staff were incredibly, I mean remarkably, helpful and pleasant.
Eating and Drinking. Campanile hotels generally have quite good restaurants, not high-end “fine dining”, but good enough to not need to leave the hotel to eat. At this hotel going elsewhere would involve taking a taxi into Venlo town, or a fairly long (1Km) walk along a busy road. On checking in it was very clearly explained that at weekends the restaurant only has a limited “bar” style menu. We were staying on Thursday and Friday nights, so Thursday normal menu, Friday limited menu. On Friday we were very tired after our day and decided to risk the limited menu, in fact it was really very much better than we had anticipated.
You wouldn’t stay here for a luxury romantic weekend with candle-lit dinners for two, but if you have a reason to be in this area, or are on your way to or from somewhere, it’s fine and decent value.
