“A place for everybody”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 August 2011

Stayed for 2 nights late July. Check in is at the Town House Hotel, the reception was very friendly and professional.
The Hip Hop Hotel is opposite and upon entering was pleasantly surprised to find vending machines were you could buy snacks and a drink. There is a lift which was useful as we had a large suitcase. We were in room 130 (I think there are only 12 room in this annex). Upon entering the room we found tea and coffee making facilities. The shower/ bath was on our right and upon entering our room surprised as to the size and contents.
On one of the walls was a picture of a single rose, the size was floor to ceiling and approx 2.2m wide, which we were impressed with. The room itself was large and in the middle was the bed which is 2.4m x1.8m, nearly got lost in it, don`t know what to call what surrounds the bed but it fits. The light switches are on the bed head and you can have different shades of light, the flat TV is at the bottom of the bed. There is free internet if you need to use it.
It`s very close to the railway station, but we never heard any noise. It is only a fifteen minute walk at a steady pace into the town. We had breakfast in the town and therefore cannot comment on their food.
As were are two 60 year olds were really did enjoy our stay here and will stay here again.
The only downside is that car parking is limited but we pre booked.

“Excellent hotel with extremely kind staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 July 2011

We visited Hip Hotel St. Martenslane for one in night in March 2011. It is a kind of annex to the Townhouse Hotel just opposite the street and about 200 mtrs. from the train station. The city centre is in walking distance. All rooms contain a trendy and luxurious canopy bed which is extra-long in size, a flat screen TV, free wi-fi, ‘colour lighting’ with a different colour for every mood, a safe deposit box and a work & dinner desk. The rooms are spacious measuring 40 m² and offer free coffee and tea facilities in the front room. Snacks, drinks and coffee are available in the lobby of the Hip Hotel in the ‘grab & go corner’ which is opened 24/7. Hip Hotel St. Martenslane is a trendy bed & breakfast with parking. All guests check in across the street in the new Townhouse Designhotel Maastricht.
We stayed in room 260 a large room with a large double bed with good mattresses. The lightening and the TV (at the foot-end of your bed) can be operated from your bed (although one of the dipswitches does not function well). The room has double glazed windows and is really soundproofed. We did not hear any noise from other rooms too. There is neither a fridge nor air-conditioning. Room and bathroom are impeccable clean. You enter the room through an entrance where you will find the coffee/tea corner and the wardrobe (there is no real linen cupboard).
At check in on the Townhouse Hotel desk a cup of soup or coffee was offered by an extremely kind and professional lady, which is a standard for all the staff (I never entered a hotel where a receptionist shakes hands, and I travel a lot). We were early and we could leave our luggage in the luggage room to go into town already. Check in/check out desk and breakfast room are in the same agreeable room. The warm and cold breakfast buffet was served in the Townhouse Hotel and was really good and abundant with several kinds of bread, meat products, cheese, liquids (even pro-secco wine), etc. A smoothie was offered too. As far as I know there is no possibility to have lunch or diner. Although the breakfast in the Townhouse Hotel is rather pricey (17 euro p.p.), booked in combination with your room in the Hip Hotel St. Martenslane it is only 10 euro p.p. This means that the price of a double room of 94 euro including breakfast is very acceptable.
All in all we are very satisfied, and we hope to return in the near future.

“Amazing, non-conventional, comfortable”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 July 2011

We stayed for one night. Our room really was hip. Large, well-designed, clean, light, quiet. A coffee-machine in the room (pads included!) and some lunch-packages from an automat in the entrance hall should be enough to get awake in the morning, because regularly breakfast is not included. We had booked breakfast extra and enjoyed a huge, rich and fresh buffet, including very different styles of breakfast.
If I ever will have to stay in Maastricht for a night or three, i'll be back!
Stefan

“Comfortable stay, modern hotel.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 July 2011

My partner and I stayed over at the Hip Hotel for just the one night. We found it quite easily as it’s close to the station and easy for taxis too. The hotel is actually part of the Townhouse Hotel opposite, that also gets great reviews, but the hip is more of a self service type hotel. You check in at the Townhouse and that’s where you have breakfast etc but you stay over the road where there isn’t any receptionist or anything.
There’s a lift, which is always welcome with luggage etc and we were really surprised when we opened our door. The rooms are very modern. You walk in through an entrance hall with complimentary hot drinks and a great bathroom and then in to the bedroom. It’s a really big room with a kind of cub in the center that forms the bed in the center with the TV etc and seating and a table around the outside. Great if you’ve got to work or use a laptop. Good if you like to lye on the bed and watch TV. I haven’t seen anything like it. You can choose different kinds of lighting including different colours.
Both the Hip and the Townhouse have vending machines so you can get drinks etc at any time, and the townhouse has lots of comfortable seating for the evenings if you want company rather than your room. Breakfast is impressive to say the least and is the widest variety we’ve seen when we were traveling across Europe on this trip. It’s not cheap though- could have cost the same as dinner if full price. We got ours included in our deal which made a stay at the Hip much more of a better deal than staying at the Townhouse, so make sure you look at the price of both when booking. Also, breakfast was stupidly busy around eight o’clock. Seems to be lots of business people staying or coach loads or something and it made it difficult to cope, by the looks of things. Leave it until later if you can.
The Hip Hotel certainly is that: it’s modern and trendy. For the size of the room I’m sure much more could have been made of it and it was a little form over function really. The bathroom had very little ventilation and was like an oven. It made it rather uncomfortable for two people to use. We were given less than half a loo roll between us and I had to go and ask for more and the towels were paper thin and not big enough unless you’re a supermodel with no hair. Parking was difficult and could be very expensive if you don’t know what you’re doing. We were lucky.
Overall, great for a one night stay. Roomy, novel and different.

Room Tip: Check The townhouse across the road too- part of the same hotel
