“Ok but not living up to its stately name”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 October 2011

the hotel rooms were rather nice but the lighting terrible, I had to move a lamp to be able to read in bed. The noice from the airconditioning was also annoying, thankfully it could be turned off at nigth - but then the air got rather stale. The carpets in the corridor were loosening from the wall, giving an impression of a hotel in decline. There was trouble with the hot water supply when I was there - taking a cold shower can be invigorating, but should be a matter of choice. Off course this can happen anywhere - but my impression of the hotel would have been better if they had acknowledge the problem and tried to compensate it in some (minor) way.
Breakfast was ok - full of small little packages of cereals and sprinkles.

Room Tip: Quite noicy from corridor and sound from the studio/conference rooms in the backyard, annoying when...

“Busy but efficient”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 July 2011

My wife and I spent 2 nights here - we were in town to attend the Andre Rieu Orchestra concert. Due to the concert, the town was very busy, especially the hotel. People from all over the world. We had originally tried to get into the Amrath DuCasque which is on the square where the concert takes place outdoor (the Vrijthof). It might have been nice but it would have been very noisy on the nights of the concert - so the hotel we chose was better - it was about a 15 minute, easy, walk to the concert. The hotel was perfectly adequate, clean and the staff were very helpful, albeit under pressure due to a full house. The price was good - we didn't eat at the hotel - the breakfast was Euro 17.50 which we thought was too much. Eating out in the town was quite expensive, but places can be found. Overall, a high-end 3 star hotel.

“Return trip for Andre Rieu”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 July 2011

I went back a year later and it was even better than I remembered it. Hope I won't have to wait another year to go back.

“Great location, nicely run, very comfortable”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 July 2011

Room was spacious and clean. Bed was extremely comfortable. Front desk staff were helpful. Would have been nice to have wireless internet access included. I would definitely return as the value was excellent! Can't beat the location, either.

“I don't recommend it - Depends on what side of the hotel you stay”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 May 2011

I checked into this hotel for two nights. When I arrived to my room I felt like I was in bad Flowers in the Attic movie. The room was very old, the carpet ran half way up the wall to create a border and was badly stained and dirty. I would not have walked bare foot on this carpet for all the money in the world! The room reminded me of a bad dorm room with twins beds with the box spring showing and low ceiling. The safe in the room must have been the first room safe ever invented, old and outdated like everything else in this room. The room had two twin beds with a night stand in the middle. My guest and I preferred to sleep in the same bed so I called down to the front desk and ask if there was a room with one large bed. She told me that all the rooms had twin beds. After examining the room I noticed that the bathroom was recently remodeled. The bathroom didn't look like it could be part the same hotel room. On my way out that evening I ask if there was another room we could move to because this room was the pits. I was told that the hotel was completely book, but I could come down the next day and change rooms.

The next day I called down to the front desks and ask if there was a room available for me to change to? The front desk person said I must come down in order to change rooms. I then pack all of my belongings and head down to the front desk. When I arrived at the front desk I was told that there were no rooms available and that I could check back later in the day. WTH? I explained to the clerk that I just called and was told there was a room available for me to change to. The lady said she didn’t know who I spoke to. After a minute of explaining the conversation, the other clerk finally says she told me there were rooms available, but none ready. ARE YOU SERIOUS? After a minute of this nonsense I told her this situation was out of control and I wanted to check out. She said she could call housekeeping and see if there was a room ready. After a phone call she gives me a room key to the other side of the hotel.

I walk into my room and it looks like a completely different hotel. This room had one large bed (two twins put together), a window seat, flat screen TV, etc. This room was the difference between a Travel Lodge and a Marriott. I couldn’t believe it. I stayed my one night in that room but I begin to think about the fact that I could have stayed two nights in this room. I’m not sure how they decide who gets to stay on what side of the hotel, but if you decide to stay here (I don’t recommend it), you want a key to the rooms on the right side if you’re facing the reception desk.
