First time I visited this place was 25 years ago.
An impressive establishment at that time, was far ahead from any other hotel in Maastricht.
The city has changed however, and the competition is close now or even better sometimes.
The location near the river and the new pedestrian bridge remains the main advantage.
The breakfast area overlooking the cable road, the river, and the old city is unique.
The quality of the breakfast and presentation was remarkable. Then, everything else is going down to average rating for the level of such an hotel.
My room was rather small and well furnished, however I could not help but observing some details that showed the lack of a complete renovation: old CRT tv(!), old telephone handset, old models of bathroom systems and tiles, absence of automatic save energy card switches.
Some of the personnel was not experienced, and all of them were slow in service for my standards. At certain parts of the day there seemed to be one lady at the desk only, who would not answer telephone calls if she was occupied with another task at the same time!
Internet service was not free (9 euros for 24 hour wifi PER DEVICE), and it always gives me
a bad impression when hotels follow this charging practice.
The restaurant of the hotel is an asset, since food and service was excellent at very reasonable price. There was also a second restaurant serving Japanese food. Unfortunately I did not have the time to try it too.
The price I paid for a double room was rather high: 160 euros+9 for Internet+10 for ..city charges= 179 euros per night.
Room Tip: Ask for river view rooms if available
