twas the location that made us book this place -- right at the heart of Onze Lieve Vrouwe plein.
the room is quite large, but we had problems with the AC. Staff also forgot a chocolate surprise during our arrival.. in exchange we had free breakfast!

Despite its nearness to the main square below which can be rowdy at night, great sound proofing made us sleep well.

Would wanna stay here again, in our next visit..

I had read some of the rather mixed reports about the Derlon Hotel and can only say that these are very unfair. I found this to be an excellent hotel in every way, the staff were helpful and courteous. The rooms were far from faded or in need of a revamp. My room was excellent. I have never seen more bathroom accessories than here, even a black(!) plastic duck. This was also the first time that Ive had a tilting bed in my room. Breakfast was serived in the airy restaurant on the ground floor.

If you go down to the basement, there is a real surprise - the remains of a Roman Piazza, lovingly excavated. The only tiny drawback was that all the information (which looked excellent) was in Dutch - an English information sheet would have made a big difference. If Im back in Maastricht I will stay at the Derlon. Its just so convenient for the beautiful town.

Hotel Derlon is situated on the most beautiful square of the Netherlands, the Onze Lieve Vrouwe plein. So the location is literally as good as it gets in Europe.

The staff is friendly, very service oriented and professional, courteous.

The rooms are dated. Our room had an old fasioned big tv set, the bathroom had a shower in a bath, in which tall people do not fit, and my wife and I both slipped when getting in or out of the bath tub. So that was a negative. The airco sort of works but the rooms feel stuffy.

Breakfast is served underground in between Roman built ruins. Very special but at the same time a bit dark and gloomy. We only went there once. Again the staff at breakfast was very professional and friendly.

Now the worst part: when reserving, this hotel makes you sign a contract that has to be signed and faxed ahead. Any cancellations after a month before the stay are not accepted. i checked out a day early and was forced to pay for all days, including the one night i did not stay. This is a big watch out. So net... Not the best experience, but a superb location in a beautiful city.

Derlon, in fact, is "the" address in Maastricht, and it has characteristics of 3 countries, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany. Located at a superb square, though in a city, you get the impression of staying in a little village where you feel at home, in a place where everbody knows you. Your dog is very welcome, too.....
