“Excellent Stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 October 2010

A friend and I stayed in the guesthouse which is actually a houseboat about 2Km from downtown Maastricht. House boat has three downstairs rooms and one big suite upstairs. It was very clean, nicely furnished with a communal kitchen. Only problem we had was bathroom was shared and was upstairs while the most of the rooms were downstairs. Other than that, great location, we walked into town (about 30 mins), person who checked us in at the hostel was great. Very nice, helpful and friendly. It was a great place and I would definitely recommend others to stay there as well.

“Oh la la, what a rip off.”

Well, where I should start... What were supposed to be a quiet and nice holidays ended up being a nightmare.
After wandering around the area for quite a long time we finally found the place. As it has been said before, there's only a tiny sign. Once we got in, the first thing we were asked to do was to show our passports and pay the room in advance. After that the receptionist spent nearly 10 minutes to tell us how to make the TV work. We got into the room, wannabe look as it also has been said. We could say our 20 first minutes there were normal. We went out for dinner and then got back to sleep as we were nackered because of the fact we spent the whole day travelling. We couldn't sleep because we could hear every single sound around us. Why? The walls seem to be made out of cardboard. Really. If you don't believe us you can knock at them. Well, we fell asleep after a few hours. Suddenly, I woke up. It was 6 o'clock in the morning and all the room was totally lit up. I understand Spain is one of the few countries who has shutters on the windows, but I would have appreciated at least a courtain, not that kind of semi-transparent cloth hung on the wall. As I couldn't get back to sleep I decided to walk around the city. When I came back at 10 in the morning I had a shower in a claustrophobic, messy toilet.
Well, we spent the day out and when we came back to the hostel around 5pm I realised that 150 euros were missing from an envelope I got in my rugsack. I felt nervous and scared thinking that someone had enter the room. Well, when I got downstairs to report what happened to the person encharged she just looked at me and asked why didn't I put the money in the safe. What?? Nobody mentioned there was a safe in my room before, but they spent a lot of time telling me how to make the TV work. Great!
Well, we decided to report it to the police and we asked how we could get to the police station. None of the two women were unwilling to help us, they just gave us wrong telephone numbers and wrong directions.
I could go on and on, but I think it's not worth to spend any more time writing about these thiefs anymore.
In conclusion: Lame room, lame facilities and lame staff. The only good point was the location, but it's full of townies/chavs around as there is a coffe shop nearby.

“Stay away from this hotel”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 March 2010

Why is this a bad hotel? Well, like another traveller remarked it is a wannabee hotel, with a so called Ralp Lauren Room (with bunkbed!) and Yves St Laurent. But apart from that it is an expensive hotel, price-quality wise. Let's do the maths, we paid 89 Euro for a room without toilet and breakfast. To start! Oeps, you pay 8 Euro tourist tax. Oeps, there is one euro for the use of your credit card. You want to check in later, most wellcome plus 10 Euro. The breakfast at 8 euro is a meager affair. And don't forget internet = extra. So while it pretends to be a budget hotel it is totally not. So what do you get for 89+8+1+10+16`=124 EURO.
A STUDENT DUMP!!! For this price you can book a decent three or four star hotel, and might you I am not a picky person. If thge price would have been 50 euro, I would have said you get wait you pay for, in this case it is an absolute rip off.
One positive thing the staff was nice and helpfull.

“I wouldn't recommend anyone to go there”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 February 2009

Despite the wannabe room's decoration, there isn't much to save in this hotel. Location is not bad but quite empty during the night. Note also that it is hard to find. The name is only put on a small whiteboard. Showers and toilets are far from perfect and are outside the room which is unacceptable when you pay 99 euro/night. There is a small sink in the room, but foresee some towels: the hotel does not provide them. The acoustic isolation is non-existent which makes you share the live of other rooms and makes your sleep much shorter. They decide to repaint the bar, when we was there let us enjoy a painting smell till the breakfast. It was probably specific to my stay, but gives you an idea on how they consider they guests. Breakfast was ok but don't think of taking a second cup of coffee: it will be charged.
Briefly, I wouldn't recommend anyone to go there. There are a lot of charming places in Maastricht that offer a much higher quality/price rate.
