“I stayed in this hotel more than 8 times last 4 years”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 August 2010

I like to stay in this hotel in my business trip. It is very close everywhere and near to motorway. But you need a taxi or best one is a rented car. You can drive everywhere in long summer daytimes. The rooms are very clean and service in this hotel's reataurant is good. You can eat deliceous foods & fresh fruits always same quality for years and years.. The stuff are very helpfull and kind.. I think I will never change my hotel in my factory visits. Thx for their helps in my lonely trips..

“In the middle of nowhere but nice walking trails nearby. Felt like it was staffed by castigating nuns.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 March 2010

When we checked in the man at reception asked if we were going to have breakfast. I told him I didn't think it was included and he said quite animatedly that it was. I asked if he was sure and he said "yes"!
The bar was quite lively with a lot of patrons chatting, playing pool, etc which I didn't expect because I felt like I was in the middle of nowhere.
The hotel itself was a big place and did smell of stale smoke in the halls.
We were tired so the room seemed fine in a corporate/chain hotel kind of place. I guess you could say "adequate" but lots of concrete. Not romantic.

In the morning we went to breakfast but since we weren't sure what we booked we asked the man at the entrance to the dining room if breakfast was included. We told him our name and he said "yes".

When it came time to pay the receptionist said breakfast wasn't included. When I told her when we checked in the man told us voluntarily it was included and we repeatedly asked we were told it was and wouldn't have eaten it otherwise she reluctanlty told us we wouldn't be charged.

The breakfast was good with lots of bread but no fresh cut fruit. (there were bananas and delicious ripe pears but not prepared). The coffee was awful. What happened to great Dutch coffee of the past?

I looked online and we paid 100 euros/night for a double obviously without breakfast. I saw that the gorgeous Hotel Kasteel Terworm less than a 1/2 mile up the road was only 130 euros night. Since my vacation time is precious, I would have done that had I known about it for the extra $$

“Large hotel / restaurant / room for Dutch people !”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 February 2010

The hotel was generally OK, although quite isolated if you do not have a car. The hotel felt like a 1960's concrete ski resort with endless corridors. Even the room, although large, was freezing !
International TV was available in the room, but do not expect any international newspapers in the lobby : quite surprising for such a large hotel, with presumably quite a lot of international business people.

“Awful spa!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 November 2009

This hotel is nicer than most Van der Valk hotels I used to visit in the past. Nicer decoration. The restaurant is too big and busy but the food was good and the personnel was helpful as we needed to eat rather fast and they were very busy. The personnel overal was helpful but not really nice and that is a pity.

We took the bruidal suite as we dislike sleeping in separate beds. Too bad the hotel only has rooms with twin beds... anyway, the suite wasn't much more expensive and it was spacious and had a great bathroom. It needs some renovation though and because of changing rooms we ended up facing the motor way which is very noisy. We had two windows but the other one was even worse, it faced a terrace with a lot of machinery. I wouldn't recomend this room for romantic couples, sorry!

But the worst was the spa. I didn't see anywhere a mention to a naturists' spa in which case we would have gone elsewhere. We had promised the children and their partners a special Christmas present (therefore the presents we took were smaller) but after being there alone on the first day we were horrified to find out that everybody would have to go naked to the sauna and steam room. Not fair to cater only for a minority, especially when this seems to be a family hotel. Strangely enough you can wrap a big towel around you which after a while will be drenched with sweat and water from the steam room but a small bikini or swimming trunk you wash under the shower is not allowed. More hygienic? I don't think so, on the contrary! This way they keep out a lot of their guests, if not most! Also the distance between the pool and the spa was too big and the corridor far too cold. The jacuzzi is far too small and people spend a lot of time in it. When it is busy in the pool I don't think that you get to use the jacuzzi at all! Nice pool though.... nice lighting!

“Mountainous dinner but nice room”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 June 2008

We stayed here for one night on our way to Germany. The hotel is conveniently situated in that bit of Holland that sticks down between Belgium and Germany, just off the main A2/E314, so its very convenient. The hotel was reasonably easy to find but the entrance to reception was not (its round to the right as you get to the car park, up about 15 steps - I'm sure there is a lift somewhere but it isn't obvious, and it sure feels a long way when you've dragged a heavy suitcase containing the Imelda Marcos shoe collection up them!).

Our ground floor room had a nice french window opening onto lawns and gardens at the back leading down to a field with sheep, donkeys etc. It meant you had easy access to somewhere you could smoke outside as well. The room itself was spacious and clean.

We dined in the enormous restaurant on a very busy Sunday night, apparently a favourite time to eat out in Holland. Be warned that the portions are gigantic :meals marked "Senioren" are smaller portions not specifically for OAP's, and we had these, but they still brought along a whole bowl of vegetables, chips and salad even though the item chosen came with mash and veg! Breakfast was one of the best spreads we saw on a 10 day trip to Germany & Holland as well but it is 12 Euros each.

With the current £/Euro exchange rate at 1.2 Euros to the £,
93 Euros for the room was not cheap, but it is a hotel we could recommend thoroughly. Diiner for two with wine, of starter and main course, came to a reasonable 60 Euros.
