I had to stay for one night in Heerlen for business. I chose to stay in the Tulip Inn as it had received fair reviews and seemed good value for money.
The hotel is well located in the city center and service was fair. The lady at the reception made no effort to smile or offer help when telling me that my room was in the 3rd floor and the elevator was not working. Luckily my suitcase was light and I am in good shape.
I chose a single room as I was travelling alone and had the suprise of a life time when opening the door. The room had a 60cm single bed, a tiny desk in the corner and a small TV hanging from the wall. The bathroom was the same mini dimensions. Luckily I arrived late and left early, to have had to spend any more time in the room would have been impossible.
It was inexpensive; but literaly a bed to strech on, a single one! And the bed was not comfortable at all, too soft and could feel the springs on my back.
Acoustics were not good, I could here people coming and going, and the TV from a neighbourging room.
In other parts of the world single and double rooms are identical, you just pay about 20% less if only one person stays in the room.
I guess there is a first for everything.
