Stayed here two nights when we drove through Holland in on our vacation to explore the country, in this case the City of Groningen.
Unfortunately, the location at the hotel are way too bad for you to discover the city. We had luckily a car so we could drive into the Groningen City.
An additional plus for many car parks as the hotel had, and maybe this is just a hotel for the traveler and not for those who want to visit Groningen ...?
The building is very beautiful, majestic, with its large glass building that stands in the middle of nowhere.
We arrived late from Amsterdam first night and needed a computer to check different things of importance to our continued journey.
The hotel had a computer placed in the middle of the building. This computer was occupied by a middle-aged man who looked at porn.
The hotel staff did not seem to care about this, or did not dare to say anything to the drunk man, although there were families with children that passing the computer, something my girlfriend complained to staff at the hotel with no success or response from the staff at all.
I have nothing against the porn, but you can handle this a little more discreet than the middle of a hotel building - and I believe absolutely that it is staff's task is to listen when their guests pointing this out.
The room was OK, not as majestic as the main hotel building.
Breakfast was also slightly below the normal quality of what one would expect for a hotel like this.
Another disadvantage is that when we checked in they asked for my e-mail. After this they sent out e-mail in Dutch to me from time to time, a language I do not understand and I have tried to ask them to stop sending out these e-mail without success.
A tip: Do not give out an e-mail you use daily, you can easily leave a false e-mail address.
The hotel had a pool. Nothing special about it, just a regular pool. It was warm and clean and we bathed in the morning and evening which was a nice feature during our stay at the Hampshire Hotel Plaza.
But it all together, we were disappointed in the hotel.
On the outside it promises more than what you get as a guest at the hotel. Should you stay one night in transit in northern Holland, this may be an option, but it is hardly I can recommend it even then.
Want to experience Groningen I recommend without hesitation another hotel than this!!
This is a crappy hotel wrapped in something that will look more exclusive than what it actually is.
