I've been staying at this hotel about twice a year over the last years and although it's not a luxury hotel it was comfortable and not too far from the center. Also the price was o.k. at €85,-. But I stayed here for the last time. Here's why:
- the price went up to €112,- (€125,- for the renovated 'luxury' rooms that look like hospital rooms with terrible green and white colors. They also look smaller but that might be an optical illusion.). That's only €6,- less then the far better and far better located NH de Ville hotel.
- reservation directly at the hotel is not possible anymore. Instead you're diverted to a 'call-centre'...very impersonal.
- When we arrived back at our room at night our TV was not working. Because we were allready in bed we asked if they fix it the next day while we were gone. I had to ask again the next day but then the TV was replaced. Still we were without a TV one day and I expected a discount for that. But in this hotel you don't get discounts for a room with a broken TV...
- the new 'luxury' rooms look awful. Bright green and white, all plastic. It reminded us of a hospital room. It also seemed smaller then the regular rooms. The flatscreen on the photo on the website is twice as big as the actual TV in the room.
- the regular rooms are in need of a renovation though. Cracks in the wall and in the bathroom sink. Old (broken) TV. Worn down carpet...
- there is no free internet in the hotel which I consider a bit out of touch with the times...
I thought that the crisis would make hotels more flexibel in their prices. I stayed at 5 star hotels in Amsterdam for €140,-. Asking €125,- for this hotel in this town is overpricing.
