My husband and I have stayed twice in this beautiful hotel in down town Groningen. You cannot stay more down town than at the Oude Boteringestraat! Everything is at walking distance! They offer valet parking so no troubles with the car. The hotel is luxurious, tastefully decorated and the staff is very friendly. The next door restaurant is cozy and serves really nice food, the bar is comfortable and the breakfast buffet delicious. Just make sure you book one of the nicer rooms, a deluxe room for example. Last time we booked a standard room which was really small, dark, with a tiny bathroom, and in bad need of some new upholstering. Fortunately, a deluxe room was available so we switched rooms and had a wonderful stay enjoying every minute of it!

I am a Canadian travel agent and have traveled extensively. At first glance this hotel has the look of an upscale hotel, but after spending 3 nights here I will suggest you look for a better hotel. We had a "superior" room so I can only guess what a standard room would be like. We paid 162.Euros per night and this did not include internet, parking, or breakfast and we were charged an additional 25 Euros for a cot. So when everything was added up, it was a very high rate for a less than adequate hotel.
The carpet in the room was dirty and looked very old. The furniture was even worse. As others have reported, the bed was hard and uncomfortable and the bedding was very poor. But the worst thing about the hotel has to be its customer service, or should I say lack of! The girls on the front desk were rude. They do nothing to be helpful or understanding.
I agree with most of the other posts here- this hotel is in a great location and has potential, but right now NH needs to do a complete make-over.

The look of this hotel is different and classic, down to the unusual check in desk. The staff were very friendly and helpful. My room had two single beds and a large bathroom, all nice and clean except the grouting around the over bath shower, needs redoing.
There is a small but adequate bar with a limited selection of drinks, but as the hotel is near the ctr of town it's fine.
I found the breakfast to be typical Dutch but the coffee out of the machine was really good.
That only leaves the negative, the room was cool and although there was a radiator in the bathroom it didn't come on so it was, well very chilly. There was also a lot of noise from other guests doors banging and shouting, mainly Russians who thought it was a good idea to fill travel mugs from the coffee machine!!!
Overall a pleasant stay

I stayed here on a weekend special package which included breakfast, free mini-bar and best of all ... late check out on Sunday on until 17:00. Finally, a hotel which gets the needs of a weekend traveller. I like weekend trips, but having to check out by 10:00 or 11:00 on a Sunday morning is just ridiculous. To boot, the very nice breakfast was also available until 12:00 on Sunday. The location of the hotel just off the Grote Markt was superb, the room was simple, but I had a small balcony which was nice and the hotel had a nicey lobby. The staff were also extremely friendly and polite.
