“The owner could spend a little more money for a finishing touch”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 November 2010

I stayed here for two nights. would not name it a B&B, since it is not what usually understood by it. The single room was small and the furnishing was done with little fantasy and saving money. There is nothing to hang on your coat, not even after people continue mentioning this on several booking and review sites, no table, a very small mirror, etc. There is the possibility to boil water for thea or coffee, but no wall plugs at useful locations. The building is very noisy, also streaming water makes a lot of noise. Finally, when I returned in the second evening, the room was not being cleaned. Nevertheless, it must be said that the bed was comfortable, the room was very clean at arrival, the location very nice, and at Bagels and Beans the breakfast good and the personal very friendly.

“Only suitable for sleeping in, but really not more.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 September 2010

I came to Nijmegen for a 3-day conference between September 15-17 (continued for a leisure trip with my boyfriend to Brussels & Amsterdam later on).

The receptionist was nice, and took my suitcase up the steep staircase for me.

My room was #1 in the same building where the "Bagels and Beans" cafe is located. It was very basic - two beds (all single rooms were booked, so I took a twin), a small table with a kettle, a TV, and two chairs.

There was no shelf or anything else for hanging/putting clothes in or on. I put my suitcase on one of the chairs and used it as a temporary wardrobe.

I was really shocked to see the restroom (loo + sink + shower together) separated by a shower curtain from the rest of the room. Not even a door! I must say, the shower was quite decent though, with hot water running at all times.

Above my bed, there was a large painting depicting the "Head of Buddha" in a closeup. I tried to turn away as much as I could, as this painting made me feel uncomfortable, looking like a part of a cadaver.

The room was not heated at nights, and it was rather cold.

Breakfast was small but reasonable: a cup of coffee, a glass of juice, a small hot bagel, a cracker, a bit of cheese, ham and omelette chunks.

Summary: only choose this place, if you plan to sleep the nights in and spend all day long outside. If you seek for a comfortable stay and would like to enjoy your room as well - seek something else.

“Good hotel, but a bit too expensive for travelling on a tight budget”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 May 2010

Great location, close to the train station and all the attractions of the old city. The hotel is in old traditional Dutch house. Clean rooms with basic furnuture. There was a water heater, water basin and satellite TV in the room. The sheets were clean. Shared toilet and shower facilities were clean. The room was rather small and under the roof, but quite comfortable. The bed was good, the blanket warm.
They serve a perfect breakfast in the cafeteria. There were jam, ham, butter, cheese, fresh hot baking made at the place, good creamed coffee or tea, juice. You can also take the breakfast away (they pack it well). The time for breakfast was too late for me (after 8.00) but if you come for holidays it is Ok.
There are spa facilities in the hotel but you will have to pay extra.
There is also wireless internet connection but I did not use it.
There was also a shared kitchen with a stove and fridge, but it was always crowded and dirty.
You get a key from the house and from your room so you can enter any time.
It is on the busy shipping street therefore it is a bit noisy, and the walls between the rooms are too thin, so it is good to have ear plugs for sleeping. If your room is on the top be ready to climb steep stairs (which was actually a fun for me!).
Generally, I am satisfied with service and room facilities, but it is a bit too expensive if you are a student and travel on a tight budget (small basic single room with shared facilities costs 50-60 EUR).

“Good value, pleasant location”

I spent one night in the De Prince, and because of faulty information on the internet, I waited for the wrong bus and got thoroughly chilled. (A bus to the main square is the one to get.) So when I first entered the white painted room with the heat not yet on, I was not impressed, especially as there was a large picture of the head of Buddha on the wall (prominent religious symbols of any kind do not belong in what will become the personal space of the traveller). Nevertheless, the room warmed up, and it and the tiny adjourning bathroom, were spotlessly clean. I was able to get a delicious snack in Bagels and Beans, adjoining the hotel. Unfortunately the TV satellite was not working and I was too tired to search out the owner. The bed was comfortable.

The following morning, my included breakfast in the same cafe was wonderful - fresh squeezed orange juice, a choice of teas (coffee also available of course), and a warm sliced bagel and a generous plateful of ham, cheese, cream cheese, jams, and butter.

The hotel is in a charming street with many small, interesting shops, not far from a stunning cathedral (architecture in the area is great) and a market. I wished I had been there long enough to explore, but personal business came first.

I learned that with the small amount of luggage I had, it was an easy walk to the train station and the adjoining bus station I had waited at for so long! I recommend printing out a map from the internet before going.
