“Good for solo travellers”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 January 2012

The Prince is located in the old part of Nijmegen, in a pleasant central street with several restaurants nearby. It is a cheap hotel spread out over several buildings. By day, you pick up the key at the Bagel & Beans, at night you ring the bell and you're let in by remote.
The shape and size of the rooms differ quite strongly (I've been in a number), but they're all clean, austere and adequately furnished. Bathrooms are invariably quite small. As is typical of older Dutch houses, there are also some steep stairs to be climbed, so this is not for the frail.
Breakfast is in the Bagel & Beans. It's allright, except that cafés in this chain are almost always understaffed (but this is not a review of them). It's simply a warning that check-out in the morning may not be superswift.
The double rooms are in my view somewhat overpriced, but the single rooms are reasonably good value, given the location and general price levels in the town. So I'd recommend this to the solo traveller who wants a cheapish, clean, central hotel and who is prepared to put up with some peculiarities.

“Nothing special , no holiday”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 December 2011

If you ever wanted and missed the experience to live in a Dutch college room
this is the experience for you.

You go to a lunchroom to pick up your key and well it its a room the size of a closet.
Bathroom is 1 square meter and im not kidding, I was absolutely amazed how they shoved all the equipment in there. TV DOES NOT WORK,( mucho interference and unwatchable.)
It is however in the center so if you only come there to sleep it might be tolerable. might.

“Irritating...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 December 2011

I spent two nights in one of the twin rooms that is just next door to the Bagel and Beans cafe (some of the rooms are in a separate building down the road). The room had been fairly recently renovated and had some useful amenities such as free wifi, a flat screen TV, tea and coffee making facilities and a hair dryer as well as a (very small) ensuite bathroom. It's also in a convenient location, right in the center of town. I would describe it as charmless though, and I managed to feel irritated by the room and general set-up of this B&B even though i was out from 8 am to 10 pm on both days. The furnishings consist of two beds, two hard chairs and two low tables, so nowhere to sit comfortably if there for any time during the day (or if wanting to work on a laptop in the evening) . There are no bedside tables which is really irritating at night-time, only one inconveniently-located power-plug, and in the bathroom, the sink was barely larger than my hands. Also, the room only gets cleaned once every three days. These may seem like small things, but they are irritating because it wouldn't take that much to really make this an attractive and comfortable room. I wouldn't complain for a minute if the room was 20 to 30% cheaper, but at nearly 60 euros a night, it just didn't feel good enough.
The cafe itself is very pleasant as is the breakfast, but when it opens at 8 am, it is run by only one person who has to prepare B&B breakfasts, check B&B customers out using an unreliable credit card machine and tend to any regular customers. Chaos ensues if, as in our case, a group of friends need to leave early, even though we had warned the evening before that this was going to be the case. We ended up arriving late at the conference on both days. Overall, poor value for money.

“Too expensive for what you get”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 November 2011

This B&B is far too expensive for what you get: we paid the 10 euro extra for the large twin room, which was large indeed but scarcely furnished (not very cosy). Furthermore, the (non-smoking room) smelled after sigarette smoke. Most importantly, the buidling was very noisy: the floors creak and the doors slam and there is no sound isolation at all. You hear literally everything what happens inside and outside the building: people in the room above and on the stairs, flusing toilets, people wandering by on the street.. everything!

It is nicely located at the heart of the centre of Nijmegen and you get a nice breakfast at Bagels & Beans, but all in all it is not worth the price you have to pay.

“Comfy room in a good position.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 October 2011

The room was large and comfortable, with access to a shared roof-top 'terrace' area. (We would have had to take out our own chairs from the room to sit there, but it gave a pleasant view.) Only problem was the bathroom lock stuck & had to be opened from outside with a coin! Bagel breakfast was nice, (across the road,) but took ages to arrive.

Room Tip: We paid the extra 10 euros for a large twin room and were pleased with it, but didn't see any ot...
