“Lovely Hotel on lovely grounds”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 July 2010

I stayed in the Golden Tulip from the 18th- 21st June with Friends and was there to attend the British rock Band 'Muse's' concert in Nijmegen on Saturday 19th. The Hotel is lovely, modern and clean and set on lovely grounds in the countryside just outside the City. The rooms themselves were comfortable, spacious and were cleaned every Day. There was no charge to use the Safe provided (well done!) but would be a little concerned at the small Balcony Fence of the Apartments considering how tall the Dutch are and I'm only 5"10! Elsewhere the Hotel Bar was friendly and well stocked !. The Contintental Breakfast Buffet was tasty and took care of the Appetites of 4 hungry Irishmen. We all slept like Logs in a nice quite relaxing Hotel and did I forget to mention the Staff? They were all nice, helpful, polite and efficient and did not mind our lack of Dutch. All in all, we got very good value for our Money and this is one Hotel I would be very happy to stay in again. Thanks to all there.

“A bucolic retreat, good for walking in the woods.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 May 2010

We stayed one night and frankly could have stayed a few more simply for the "get-away" nature of the hotel. Surrounded by green and gardens, the hotel allowed us to relax and sleep peacefully. We had gone to meet a relative who was traveling with a group and was staying there - thus, we had expected an institutional atmosphere but were pleasantly surprised.

“A Quiet Retreat in the Woods-not for partiers! Above Avg./ not quite "Very Good"”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 April 2010

What other reviewers disliked- I FOUND APPEALING! While on an auto tour of Europe in many towns and cities, for our one night stay, this nice, peaceful place in the the woods was a pleasant change. If you wish to see the city of Nijmegen, and have no car, STAY IN THE CITY! I found the staff friendly, the good food was better than at chain-hotels. The spacious room was a comfortable simplicity...not luxury, but not worn out and cheap. The view of the large front lawn with gardens and a pond and tall trees was inspiring.

I am not one of the "old and retired guests" that others refer to in reviews about this hotel, but I do not need, desire or use a mini-bar, don't need to drink at a hotel bar until midnite (I'll go out to a real club!), and my tv doesn't need to be a 42 inch plasma.

“Not impressed - very institutional”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2010

This hotel is set in the woods around Nijmegen, in Berg en Dal. The hotel was perhaps nice several decades ago, but now has a very institutional feel. The restaurant is trying to be formal, but the food is average, and it closes at 21:00. The bar was able to have a ham & cheese sandwich made up for me, but was very basic. (Room service was also only ham& cheese). The service is fine, but the hotel there are no restaurants to walk to and very little to drive to without driving back into Nijmegen. Wifi is very expensive (€20/day) and the connection is VERY slow. The room is functional, but overall I felt that I was in some sort of dorm facility. All-in-all, a bit depressing.

“The best hotel that I have been in my life”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 October 2009

I did not know Golden Tulip and I have never heard about it when I went to Netherlands. So, I tried to find a hotel in which I could be with my wife during two days in Nijmegen, in July 2009. When I arrived there, I got impressed with the beauty of the places around the hotel. It is localized near a forest and there are a lot of green places around. The hotel is very beautiful and the gardens are perfect. The receptionists are very kind and helpful. Every time that I needed any help, they presented a nice smile and many suggestions. Inside the hotel, the furniture is very nice and pretty new. The rooms are very comfortable, with nice beds; nice TV, nice shower (with bathtub) and they present a good smell (not a smell of cigarettes that you can find in most hotels). Around the hotel, you can take a walk and feel the pure air from the forest and admire the perfect gardens. If you want to walk a little more, you can go to the street, turn left and walk until you find a corner, where you will a very nice district, with some houses and very green places. These are perfect to who wants to relax and feel the wonderful air of the Netherlands. I really recommend the Golden Tulip Val Mont to who likes to be in peaceful place, with green areas, no noises, nice people (who say Good Morning to everyone) and very comfortable rooms. Ah, I forget to say, but the breakfast is wonderful with a lot of fruits, cheese, many types of breads, milk and everything that you can imagine (the best of the Netherlands). If you want to have an unforgettable experience, go to the Golden Tulip Val Monte. I am sure that you will not regret.
