“Simply the best hotel in Arnhem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 February 2011

Landed on their doorstep when the other hotels in town were full. The room rate was actually less than the Best Western. The hotel is charming and the rooms were very comfortable. The staff was friendly and made us feel welcomed. The breakfast was very good and satisfying without being rushed, in an enclosed garden room. There was also late night service available for hot tea and drinks. There is no elevator in the four story hotel. The room rates go down as the room location goes up. We stayed on the top floor. The room was large and the high ceiling in the bedroom followed the contours of the roof giving it a charming character. Although it is not in the center of town it is only a short walk to the main area where there is shopping, restaurants, banks and the train station.

“Lovely room in a great hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 November 2010

I only stayed here one night but was impressed by the hotel and the room was lovely - fully carpeted and generous proportions with a very high ceiling. It also had a balcony which in November is superfluous! Just be aware that when I stayed it was raining heavily and the old steel guttering was noisy and necessitated earplugs. Breakfast was very good in a nice room.

“lovely old building, perfect balance of convenient location & quiet charm”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 May 2010

The only potential negative is the lack of an elevator, but we actually like the stairs, with their huge stained / leaded glass windows and wall decorations. Our room is gigantic by european old-hotel standards, ~15 x 20 feet, with ceilings over 10 feet high, and a balcony overlooking the sonsbeek (the creek) and cattycorner to the sonsbeek park. We can watch a pair of swans urging their cygnets out of the water for entertainment. Breakfast is generous, good, and served until 10 AM (three sliced cheeses, several other spreadable cheeses, pate, cold cuts, warm boiled eggs, 8 or 9 sorts of breads and baked goods, cute, highly decorated cupcakes that taste like ladyfinger batter, good yoghurt with fruit, various honey and syrups and jams and nut spread, fresh coffee, tea, juice, milk). Really, really nice staff (all of them). Just a shower, not a bath, but a large one / well designed. No noise problems from any neighbors (above, below, or to the sides). Comfy bed (a real two person bed, none of those "two beds next to each other called one bed" that make cuddling so difficult in some Dutch hotels). It's maybe 10 minutes walk, with bags, from the train station, bus station, and the car-free, colorful, friendly downtown shopping area.

“Charming and cosy”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2010

Stayed for 3 nights in January. While the weather outside was bitterly cold and snowing, the Molendal was a cosy, warm home. The room was large and immaculately clean, the bar welcoming and open whenever required, and the breakfast hearty and tasty. Staff were friendly and helpful. Located just a brief stroll from the centre of town with its many bars and restaurants, this hotel is truly gezellig in the best Dutch tradition.

“Characterful and comfortable”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2010

Stayed for two nights to break train journey home from Switzerland. Interesting building in a quiet area within easy walking distance of the station, city centre and a large park. Large, comfortable room (No 6), excellent breakfast.
