“Lovely rooms and jolly staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2011

The rooms are the highlight of the hotel-spacious with very comfortable beds. We stayed in the cheapest rooms so guess those higher in price are even better.
The staff are very friendly too.
I don't understand the comments about the breakfast posted by a previous customer. I really like the way the staff don't intrude. The breakfast is really good -lovely fruits, jams, meat and cheeses. Three different types of tea are offered and I was offered champagne with my breakfast !
Location could be a problem-it is at least three miles from shops so if you don't have a car and don't want to cycle it's a long walk anywhere.

“Very disappointing!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 December 2010

My husband and I chose De Echoput to celebrate our first wedding anniversary.

Firstly, let me say that the location and the room were, on the whole, excellent (despite the whole hotel being very cold - strange for a newly built hotel) but the core basis of service, were not anywhere near the levels we expected.

The main issue with our stay was the service during our dinner on Saturday evening. We sat down for dinner at 1930 and were promptly asked if we would like an aperitif, as well as being brought an amuse. Following this, our order was taken but we did not receive our first course until 2130. My husband requested a number of times if a member of staff could try and check where our food was as well as speaking to the manager but this was unsuccessful. Subsequently, after the first course, we had to wait an additional 50 minutes for our second course (as part of a 5 course dinner). which we feel is not acceptable, and also that there was limited apology from the staff, the only thing we got was a waiter stating that it was a 'miscommunication'!

Additionally, we ordered a five course wine arrangement with the food. This was significantly below the standard we expected from a restaurant and hotel professing gastromic excellence. Of the four wines we had (Yes I was also surprised to have 4 wines with a 5 course meal), only one was a quality wine, for the remainder, it felt as if we were being provided with various 'house wines'.

When we eventually ate some food it was fantastic so if you are prepared to wait 2 hours for food the restaurant is worth a visit.

On the whole very disappointing and a hotel that will not be getting our custom again.

“Could have been a lot better!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2010

After coming here in the restaurant since my early childhood, it’s still a great place to visit, in a lot of ways, but unfortunately not all.

To start with the good things: the area, where it is situated, is one of the most beautiful in Holland. (The hotel supplies some walks in the area, but they are not up to date or badly described. Ah well. And we’re seasoned walkers and readers of these and almost got “lost”. Minor details).

Second; there is a super (a.o. game-) restaurant. Known all over The Netherlands, VERY well recommended!

Third; they’ve made a completely new hotel to complete the restaurant (with a swimmingpool and spa, -which we haven’t tried-). The rooms were absolutely superb, except for some very, very, minor details, which are not worthwhile to mention here. We stayed in the most simple room; (and as my wife and I both do a lot of travelling) we were MORE than satisfied and nicely surprised. The room was spacious, the bathroom just great, good beds, et cetera.
The dinner was very good, as was the the service in the restaurant. All in all; almost just perfect. 9/10

Then... the next morning. We woke up to a spontiously startLed by a waking up TV + telephone afterwards. No explanation supplied. Apart fom that; the management knew there were some roadworks right in front of the hotel going on during the night. And as there were plenty of spare rooms in the back of the hotel (for the same price); they still booked us to the frontside (we found this out afterwards). Why? No explanation afterwards.

During breakfast, there was nobody to be seen of the staff. After 10 to 15 minutes waiting (we picked titbits from the buffet) we went to the receptiondesk to ask for some coffee or tea. Somehow, -relunctantly-, this was finally offered. (And to the other guests aswell). Without any sugar or milk. But ask for it, and you can get it! WOW. Clumsy. The coffee was just more than awfull. The worst. And the tea allready made. No choice offered. What’s difficult about some boiling water and some different tea-bags? But, could we have a cappuccino instead? “No problem”. YES! Only; we got the SAME heated-up (really awfull) coffee with some frothed cream on top!!! A disgrace! That’s not a cappuccino! After a 1st class meal the evening before, you expect at least a 2nd class breakfast, or at least a decent one...
All in all; the breakfast was very, very poor, compared to the euro’s wanted. (For example; you can slice your own large bread on the buffet in the morning. With a small Mickey Mouse knife, and on a even smaller cuttingboard....) Great. Fun ☹

Avoid it. Have a nice dinner in the restaurant, but book a room somewhere else in the region...

“one of the best hotels in The Netherlands”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2010

I have stayed at this hotel a couple of times. It is definitely one of the most pleasant hotels I have ever stayed at. Once you enter your room you don't feel like leaving anywore. The rooms are spacious and clean with a big bed (>2 meters), big bathtub, seperate shower. The interior is very modern and cosy at the same time. The minibar is complimentary, there's free wifi, great room service, a nice pool. The rooms are very quiet and the restaurant is amazing! Being a gastronomic restaurant with biological products it is pretty expensive to eat at the restaurant for dinner but the small menu for lunch and room service are reasonably priced. There's a nice pool and a very small sauna but this still adds to the relaxation. Staff is very friendly and professional.

The view from the balcony is not particulary pretty but that's the only negative point I can come up with. This will remain one of our favourite getaways for years to come.

“Had a great stay at the Echoput!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 July 2009

Just had the pleasure of staying a night at the Echoput (room 1.04) with my spouse and daughter. And we liked it very much: the modern architecture and styling of the rooms, the friendliness of the staff, the quiet surroundings (though the highway is quite nearby; didn't hear anything of it because our room was located at the back of the hotel). When we arrived, there was a bag of candy on one of the pillows for my daughter which was a very nice touch. The room itself was quite spacious (my spouse, daughter (in an extra bed at an extra charge btw) and me stayed in one room, but we had plenty of room left), very nice bathroom (liked the powerful shower). We made use of room service, that arrived quite swiftly and the food was quite nice (they made some very tasty french fries for my daughter). Having had dinner, we made use of the swimming pool. Although it is not a gigantic pool, we had great fun (had the pool for ourselves). If we had to complain, then it would be about the bed: it was far too soft for us. The next morning, we had breakfast which was quite nice. Went for a swim again, and then we checked out to go to Apenheul (nearby the hotel, just as Julianatoren). We paid around 260 Euros (the room itself was 129 Euros (which is a bargain, actually), the rest was for the extra bed, the room service and breakfast). Yes, maybe that's pricey (particularly the extras) but it was worth it. Had no problems with our cell phones btw. We would definitely stay here again.
