Beautifully located in the middle of the woods, yet very close to the road (without noise being a problem), surrounded by nice walking and cycling routes, bus stop 20 mtrs away, De Echoput is a pleasant hotel.
It is newly built, thus with a modern design and amenities. We stayed in a superior room on the 2nd floor. It was spacious, clean, modern, nice bathroom with double shower and huge bathtub, separate toilet, comfortable bed, balcony overlooking the woods.
Although the hotel could be worthy of the 5 stars given, the Reception is far too small, basic and chaotic for such a rating. We received on several occasions confusing and incorrect information and the ''walking routes'' maps that they provide are useless. For the rest, the staff is friendly.
Although on the small side, the pool area is very nice. Beautiful pool, heated water, relax lounge chairs, good quality towels, cold water and toiletries available as well! The sauna can accomodate a max. of 3 persons, thus quite small, but it works just fine!
We haven't tried the main restaurant, just the bistro Flavours which failed to impress us in any way. Cannot give it more than 3 stars!!! Overcrowded with small tables that are almost impossibly close to each other, sometimes making it impossible for people to sit comfortably, the bistro lacks attention to details, a good service or a wide menu. This is also the breakfast area - buffet breakfast with poor choice for a 5* establishment!!! As for having dinner in the bistro, the food tasted well, obviously French gastronomie ( not for hungry souls :) ), but the wine list is very customer unfriendly. We are aware of the fact that this is a gourmet place, however they should keep the incredibly expensive wines for the restaurant and have more accessible ones for the bistro. Furthermore, in the wine menu, there is no description of the type of wine - just the name and the provenience. Not everybody is a wine expert and resorting to ask for the waiter's advice ends up in a recommendation with a 3 digit price... Most of the wines in the menu are a couple hundred euros per bottle, very limited choice for more affordable wines. The bistro experience both for breakfast and dinner was not extremely pleasant.
Free wifi and free parking, also the hotel is very close to Apeldoorn - a couple of minutes by car or bus.
We would definitely return to this hotel, for its beautiful location, design and modern features, but certainly not to have dinner in the bistro anymore.
