“Pleasant hotel but don't let the photos fool you”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 August 2009

The hotel is smack in the centre of town so you really can't get a better location. But indeed the rooms have no character (totally modern) and there is little of the old flavour left except in large common rooms. Service is not fantastic especially compared to standards in the Netherlands. They are not awfully eager to help. Parking is indeed an issue so we ended up leaving our car in a public parking. Nonetheless we enjoyed our stay. We got a suite for a decent price and breakfast in the garden was extremely pleasant. I would probably go back again.

“Great location, average hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 October 2008

We stayed in the "double deluxe room with shower", previously called the "business double" I think. It means you get a reasonable sized, characterless modern room in the annex.

There are only 8 parking spaces at the hotel which means you are more than likely going to end up at the local car park, although the nearest one is closed on Sundays. Make sure you don't get charged when you didn't park at the hotel - they tried to charge me for 7 days when I only managed to park there for three.

They say they will keep things in a safe but it seems a bit hit and miss as to whether there would be anyone with a key to the safe on the day we left, so in the end we took our things out of the safe 3 days early to be certain we could leave with our possessions.

When we arrived before our room was ready we left out luggage in a room which they locked which was fine. When we wanted to leave our luggage until the afternoon on the day of departure they used the same room, but didn't lock it. I pointed out that it wasn't very safe and they said they will keep an eye on it. Not very encouraging. We went back for another coat later and there was no-one in reception so we wandered into the "safe" room and got our coat.

Breakfast was quite good but totally self service buffet.

Overall, the location is good with some good restaurants nearby, the room comfortable and large, but the service a bit second rate. Oh, and they charge your credit card with the full amount when you book!

“A+ facility, F- hospitality”

We are frequent travelers to Friesland and thought a stay in a historic building would be a pleasant experience. Let me say first that the hotel itself is wonderful and we regret the lost night that we had to enjoy it to its fullest. We had the unpleasant experience of sharing the night with the annual Orange Ball on the Queen's birthday. There was no help with parking or bags, the fire alarm went of regularly until 1 or 2 AM, and coffee/room service was unavailable. All of this was due to the Ball and I'm certain that other nights would have been a different experience. It was clear on this night that the first priority was the Ball and its attendees. Hotel guests were an afterthought. What struck me was the consistent excuse that "we're shorthanded" and the absolute lack of sensitivity or apology for the situation. Certainly they had opportunity to plan for the event, but still chose to accept our reservation and charged us full fare for the night. As for parking, there were several places in front of the hotel (we were not allowed to park there -- due to the Ball, of course) and the closest public parking garage was 2+ kilometers away. Also, the parking garage was closed on Sunday, our ticket was in the auto, and it cost an additional $30 euros to have the garage opened for us. All in all, had the hosts been hospitable, gracious, or apologetic, we would have been more understanding. AS it was, we won't be back.

“The best option in Leeuwarden”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 August 2005

In 2003 I stayed for three months in 't Stadhouderlijk Hof for business. I think this is the nicest hotel in Leeuwarden (there isn’t much to choose from) and is located at the heart of the city. In those three months I stayed in practically every kind of room available in the hotel, and all of them have a very good value/money ratio (the imperials as well). All rooms are large and very well kept. At the time of my stay there wasn’t the service of a la carte restaurant like there is now, so I’ve no experience with that aspect, though breakfast was definitely more than sufficient.
From my part the only option for a stay in Leeuwarden

This hotel is an old building in the old part of the city. It has more character than the other modern hotels on offer in Leeuwarden. Difficult to find parking but the hotel was great in terms of breakfast and a big room.
