First of all, don't let the pictures of the hotel mislead you. Our room had nothing of the grandor that is promised on the site. We stayed at three star hotels that were fancier than what we got here. In the bathroom there were no miniature soap bars and shampoo. The plastic shower curtain on the plastic rail looked rather shabby. The orange and blue carpet tiles were completely misplaced in a 4 star hotel that pretends to have "Palace" as its second name. Not to mention the cheap lamps and furniture. If I were a hotelowner I would simply be embarrassed to display them in one of my hotel rooms.

The first unpleasant surprise was however the paid parking and the fact that I had to hand in my car key at the reception for the stuff to move my car if needed. Both receptionists were unfriendly, clinically professional, really unaccommodating.

The second downer was at the restaurant. We could not eat a la carte, but were served a fixed menu of minuscule size. I am aware of the fact that haute cuisine is characterized by humongous plates with little on them but we never expected it to be so little and so average.

Average is, as far we are concerned, the best characterization for a hotel-restaurant which has the pretentions of a de luxe establishment.

Would I recommend this hotel to other travellers? Let's do a quick recap: paid parking, no free internet, dodgy room, unfriendly staff, high prices. Guess not.

Although it wasn't easy for us to find the location of the hotel, and parking was a little ways away, this hotel was a lovely place to stay. The building is beautiful, and the room we had was huge. Everything was very clean, the decor was modern and updated, the heated floor in the bathroom was a really nice touch. Our room overlooked the front of the building on the town square. Even though there was a wedding going on at the hotel the night we stayed, it was very quiet.
The staff didn't speak much English but tried to be very helpful. The breakfast was more than adequate and served in a pretty part of the hotel.
Location was great, easy walking to restaurants. Absolutely would stay there again.

We booked two days before through a hotel bookings site on internet and got a good price.
The hotel is in the middle of the city-center of Leeuwarden. within two minutes there are dozens of bars, shops and restaurants. Parking your car is 12,50 per night.

Rooms were just avarage, but that's Europe for you. I loved the pictures we took there. Some people said the service was not good. But I was the bride on that day, I guess no one would be mean to a bride, so I had a good time. And the location was perfect for us, cause city hall was just acrss the road.
