The best thing about this hotel is the lovely restaurant on the ground floor. This is a cosy, warm place.
My room was cheap and basic (no complaints on that aspect) but everything was extremely worn. The wallpaper was peeling off the walls and some of the curtain hooks were missing or broken so the curtains would not go all the way across and meet in the middle. The telephone cable was stretched out across the room, in front of the bathroom door - I unplugged it at night, to make sure I didn't trip on it!
The worst thing was that the heating was off when I arrived. At 10pm on a February evening in Assen, this was not nice! The room was barely warm by morning time. The second-worst thing was that, when I came back to my room on the second day, the heating had again been turned off and the room was cold once again, so back to square one. I piled all the bedclothes on from both beds, and was just about warm enough.
In short, if you get a cheap rate and are not going to be spending much time in the hotel, then it's fine for location and the restaurant. But you'll want to avoid spending much time in your room.
