“Fatastic view and location - but one of the oddest places i've ever been”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2011

Visited in September and was blown away by the view and location. Possibly my favourite of anywhere I have stayed worldwide. But the reviews are right, the staff are friendly but lacklustre, the decor is dated, the management odd, the cleaning although ok could be a bit better and the food is average. On the plus side the beer is great and the beds very clean and comfy.

Would I go back? Yes - for the view and the beer. But if the mangment ran it better I would be going back alot sooner.

It's an odd place but well worth a visit, if only to be able to join in the conversation about how much better you could run it

A good 2* hotel with regular British pub food. A superb location and amazing views from our room (20). Clean and accommodatiating with willing staff.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view

“very nice hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 October 2011

We have just come back from a 2 night stay(Sunday-Tuesday) in The Worms Head and it was a very pleasant stay. The receptionist when we arrived was very friendly and helpful. Our room (3) was a little on the small side but adiquate to our needs, and as previous comments have said the views are really fantastic so we didn't mind the room size at all. Some parts of the hotel do look a little tired but our room and the public areas were very clean. All I can say is all the staff were really nice, we ate & drank both evenings at the hotel - good food, good beer, very friendly staff all round. Its a shame the previous write up of the hotel had such a bad time. Also, on our checkout we ask to see a superior room for when we book again, and again, no problem to show us another room(can't remember the room number) which was bigger but we did prefer our orginal room for the views. I would recommend staying at this hotel.

“Poor food, run down room and rude management!”

We arrived at the hotel on a Saturday morning and were greeted by one of the owners. She gave us our key and told us we had been given a sea view room that we were quite excited about. We were not given any details of the hotel..times for breakfast, dinner etc but we assumed these would be in the details in our room.
On entering the room the cold damp smell hit us and we were shocked at the size of the room. It was so small! The furniture resembled that of a very cheap b&b and the bathroom was also very small. There was a rusty shelf for your toiletries and it smelt of sewerage. The view however was fantastic. We decided to put our worries to one side and try and enjoy the outdoors - we would use it as a base and go off and adventure. (no detaikls about breakfast etc in the room).
We ordered food from the bar and ate outside - the food was not good. The burger was like something you would get from a burger van and was certainly not worth £8.50. It was becoming clear that the hotel had a captive audience and could get away with charging whatever they wanted with as little effort as they were the only one in the area. The toilets were horrendous - definitely a health and safety issue and infection risk!
Later on that night we went to reception and asked the owner if we could cancel our second night as unfortunately we could not stay that long after all. (We did not want to complain as we did not want to spoil our break). The owner said very sharply that we were tied in and could not cancel. We had to give 48hours notice. We thought he would be lenient as we had only booked the rooms the previous night as a last minute escape but he dismissed us.
After this we had to contact reception a few times.... a leak in the bathroom with water all over the floor....no heating in the bedroom and no phone or remote for the t.v. The attitude from the owners was appalling. The only saving grace was the lovely staff that worked there. They were always busy and making sure visitors were ok...oh and the view.
The hotel felt like a youth hostel but with an £80 a night price tag to stay in a run down room.
We do not recommend that you stay here but the views are fantastic...enjoy a beer and a snack..and then dine at the Bay Bistro next door. Stay at either King Arthur Hotel or Oxwich Bay Hotel - both visted and eaten at with friendly staff and lovely atmosphere.
