Just returned from a short business trip in Switzerland.
I stayed in the Hotel Basilea only one night, but I think it was enough to establish a fair opinion:
- The location is very good. Near the river, relatively close to the train station and to the old town. Many pubs in the streat and for families be careful.. this is a street were many hookers are waiting for customers..
- The receptionist girls were very polite and helpful when we had to ask for guidelines and information
- The rooms are very very small... But at least they were clean. The hotel has a noise problem due to thin walls I guess. I woke up in the morning (earlier than I would like to) because from the floor above me I could hear very loud footsteps. And all the rest of my colleagues had the same problem as well
- Breakfast was one of the most limited I had for many years visiting hotels (even 3 star ones). Just the basics.. And a very very bad coffee!
- Very expensive for the quality offered
- Free wi-fi was indeed a plus
As a general comment Zurich is a very expensive city (as Switzerland in general) so be ready to spend a lot of money for even simple things (like coffee). I strongly suggest you use the trains (one of the best in the world train infrastuctures) to visit nearby destinations. I went to Schuffhausen which is a very nice place.. Dont forget to visit the Rheine waterfalls..!!
