Stayed at this hotel for 3 nights at the beginning of September 2011. Booked an urban french forest room through the hotel website directly and paid an average of CHF280 per night.
Emailed the hotel before I arrived to check how to get to the hotel from Zürich Hauptbahnhof train station, staff replied very quickly with instructions. From the train station, the tram ride was about 15 minutes and you get off at the last stop. I arrived quite late at night and after getting off the tram, I wasn't sure which way to go as there were no signs and the hotel was not anywhere in sight. Asked the tram driver and he hadn't heard of the hotel either, he was nice enough to check the map for me and point me towards the hotel. The staff told me it's about 5 minutes walk after getting off the tram and I would like to say that's impossible. I had one large suitcase with me and it was a hike up a hill, not very steep to be fair, but still I struggled.
I can't say I like the room, sure, it's quite modern. I guess I like coziness and the vibe of the room isn't very homey or comfy. I like soft mattress and the bed was quite hard and not very comfortable. I hate the pillows, it's those pillows where they will be completely flat by the morning. Only good thing was everything is very clean and new. The toiletries were Bvlgari which is nice BUT they are cheapskate and wouldn't give you new bottles even though you had finished half the bottle. I know this sounds petty, but I seriously don't think these cost them much and I don't like not having enough on the 2nd day.
My major complaint is with regard to the wifi service. It was either not included in the room price or I couldn't access it in the room even though I was willing to pay for it. Wifi really is a necessity these days so I find this completely unacceptable. I needed wifi to research where to go, make reservations etc and remember feeling very frustrated as I have to go down to the lobby in order to have wifi. On one night, they had even turned off the wifi at midnight when I went downstairs and I thought it was ridiculous.
The tram is reliable and efficient but still I felt the hotel is quite out of the way and also I didn't like to hike up the hill after a day out. The area is very quiet but for some reason, I can see a tunnel from my room window and I could hear cars even though it was already quite late at night. Another problem is because of all the trees nearby, a few bugs will fly into the room.
Can't say I was impressed and for the price, I am certain I can find a better hotel in a more central location.
