We've stayed at the Renaissance Zurich on two occasions traveling to/from Zurich. This is one of two Renaissance properties in Zurich, and is located a short tram ride from the airport, and a few blocks from the Hallenstadion. While the hotel has large rooms and modern amenities you'd expect for a nice business class hotel, the location is certainly outside of the city center, though you can easily reach the center via taxi or tram with a reasonable short ride. The area around Thurgauer hosts a large number of international company offices, but there are not really any attractions in the immediate vicinity, so don't expect any charm or sense of Zurich life. There is a large Renault car dealership between the hotel and the main road, which I offer as a good landmark to find the hotel, since it's set back from the road a fair distance.

Again, the many amenities here are higher than average for European hotels, including large rooms, modern business facilities, fitness facilities, parking, a very nice Asian restaurant, and a full set of services. There are probably some additional dining options, but we only tried the Asian option, which we were favorably please with. There is also a pretty chic bar area that seems to be popular with business travelers and some business locals, but our family trip(s) kept us away from this option.

As with most Swiss hotels, it can be on the expensive side. However, I came to think that it offers a better value than some City Center hotels or similar options, because there's a better likelihood to get a decent deal from the Renaissance as a globally associated chain. Have found rates better than the published ones both on an Ebay auction, as well as once on Priceline. There are opportunities to get a room here at or just under US$100, but you have to work for that extra discount, given the usual premium for the Franc and the Zurich location.

Lastly, the large and modern-design lobby is the major indication that the Renaissance is not a traditional Zurich hotel, for better or worse, depending upon what you're looking for.
