“Old-town charm and wonderful location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 December 2011

We stayed 2 nights in November, when the city was relatively quiet. If the junior suite is open and fits your budget, consider it. It's got a roof-top terrace with great views. The room itself is very comfortable, although not huge. One king bed, a small table and chairs, another sleeping alcove with a twin bed, and a nice sized bathroom with tub and shower. On top floor so relatively quiet.

We also spent one night in the other suite, which is in the other building across a small street. 2 levels, 2 bedrooms, big living area and kitchen, 2 bath - very nice modern design. Would be good for a family or a longer stay. Also has a terrace, although views not as good.

Other reviewers have commented on noise - Zurich's old town has narrow cobblestoned streets and noise does carry. There weren't many people outside late in November due to cold weather, but I expect it'd be noisy if there were. Earplugs are provided, but might not be enough.

Good breakfast, very helpful service (e.g., recommending restaurants).

Location is a 20 minute walk from main train station, 5 minutes from Stadelhofen Station, and about 10 minutes from the main shopping street and 2 beautiful churches.

Other reviewers are right - hard to drive to this hotel. So, don't. Just use the train.

Appreciated the early check in after an overnight flights. Would stay here again. Also considered the Widder, but it is SO much more expensive.

Room Tip: Junior suite or other suite - for the quiet and views from terraces.

“Ideal Location, fair price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 November 2011

We stayed in the newly redone building right across the tiny street. There they have kingsize beds and are no smoking. Very modern and clean. Hotel is on a little side street so our taxi drivers at the train station had difficulty finding it. Bring a map with you so you can help them because it's a tiny side street and there is Rossligasse and a Rosslistrasse. Front desk helped make some dinner reservations for us and were very helpful. Everything is in walking distance.

Room Tip: Ask for the new section with kingsize beds.

“Great hotel, fantastic central location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 October 2011

I stayed here for 3 nights at the start of october. couldn't fault the hotel, or it's location. If you are arriving at the airport, it's a 15minute trip on the S16 to Stadelhofen and then a five minute walk in a straight line to Roessligasse where the hotel is.
I arrived at midday and was pleasantly surprised that I could get straight into my room. it was a good size with an average sized double bed, and a fantastically technicolour bathroom and shower.
i can see why some reviews commented on the temperature, the room was pleasantly warm, without any heating on - had the weather been warmer outside it might have been a bit uncomfortable. I was in room 301 over looking the street. I didn't have any issues with noise - from inside the hotel and neighbouring rooms (which has been an issue in other places I've stayed) but did also used the earplugs provided.

Breakfast was standard continental fare, but with a good selection of fruit juices, instead of the obligatory orange.

Staff on the desk were really helpful.

Zurich isn't the cheapest place in the world, but there's a coop supermarket five minutes away which sells basic supplies (including good value chocolate). Thanks to the hotel I had a really nice stay, despite the appalling weather.

If you are planning on sightseeing in Zurich i'd recommend the Zurich card, available online from the Zurich tourist service. you can pick it up at the airport and this will get you free public transport on the train, metro, polybahn and on the boats, as well as entry to all the museums.

Dear Guest

We thank you very much for your good review and for sharing your experience in our Hotel with other travellers on tripadviser.com. All our rooms are not air conditioned. Due to the weather conditions in Zurich, it is not viable to have air conditioning, as very hot summer are very short. We are looking forward to welcome you again at the Hotel Rössli.

Kind regards

“Great Location in the middle of Old Town”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 September 2011

This was a very nice hotel, after our 8 hour overnight flight from Chicago, to Zurich. In general, hotel prices in Switzerland tend to be a bit higher than the U.S., but after that initial adjustment, we felt the location of this hotel was ideal for our 1 1/2 day stay in Zurich. It's located on a cobblestone alley, (Rossligasse), right in the center of old town! This was ideal for us, as we either walked or used public transportation for our entire stay in Switzerland. We noticed that air conditioning is not widely used in Switzerland, and the summer months can be warm, but we opened our room windows and used a provided fan to keep comfortable. We are "early raisers" so we enjoyed the breakfast available at the hotel (20 CHF per person), but a good breakfast was beneficial with a full day of walking. This hotel is close to many beautiful churches, with exceptional clock towers, and is very close the the Limmat river and wonderful walks along it's banks.

“Rössli: my home in Zürich”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 August 2011

I have visited Zürich many, many times and I always stay at the Rössli. In total, I have easily more than 20 stays at this hotel.

The location is perfect for whatever you want to do in the city centre and walking distance to the Hauptbahnhof, alternatively with a tram stop just a few minutes walk away.

The rooms are white and minimalistic, yet very cosy and functional. The bath rooms are decorated in mosaics, there is a roomy minibar and a small TV with international news. There is also a fan. The breakfast buffet is small but the choice is very exquisitely selected with fresh bakery bread of different kinds, local cheese and cold cuts and the best bircher müsli I know - lot's of apples and fruit.

The only draw back is that the alley (Rössligasse) outside can be a little noisy as there two bars located there. They are not open very late, however, and do not play music. Ear plugs are a standard amenity in the room, should you need them. The ventilation is a little so-so so windows need to be open in the summer, but small wonder since this a modern boutique hotel in a very, very old building. Check out the old wooden beams in the breakfast room.

The service is extremely friendly and helpful - all of the hotel has a wonderful atmostphere!
