“Nothing special, long walk from train station”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 September 2011

I stayed in the Hotel St. Georges with friends in June 2011. We picked this hotel because of the low price compared to other Zurich hotels (though it was expensive compared to hotels in other European cities).

It was a long walk to reach the hotel from the train station. To save money, we chose a room without a private bathroom. We had a sink in our room, but we had to share the bathroom and shower with other travelers on our floor. Fortunately, there were few enough rooms per floor that this didn't pose any problems. Breakfast was included, but it wasn't anything special.

Overall, I feel like I paid too much for what I received, but maybe there aren't any better options in Zurich. Still, if they lowered the prices a bit more, I'd raise my rating to 4 or even 5 stars.

“Clean, spartan, 2* hotel which I prefer over 4-5* in Zurich because of location.”

I've stayed here 4-5 times on visiting Zurich from London. This hotel is basic and clean. The rooms vary in size from small to big and I've stayed in the largest (3 beds, front facing with French windows) to a room not a lot bigger than the bed. Always clean. The cheapest option is without en-suite facilities, which is no problem as the shared toilets and showers are in excellent condition - and as good as we get at work - so no problem there. I have spent enough time in 4-5 star hotels, and it does no harm to live "spartan"ly now and again. Service can be good, though the hotel breakfast is very basic, and I miss it and catch it in our work canteen. Once they overbooked me, booked me in nearby to a better room at another hotel but at the same cost and gave me cash for the taxi - all arranged and without fuss.

It's less than 10 mins walk from the office I visit and I'd prefer this over a 4-5* hotel that are would mean a 3-4 times longer journey to the office.

I have recommended this hotel to work colleagues, some of whom have gone there (not all because some seem to not be able to do without 4-5* !) - and I am going to stay there again this week.

“Pleasant Stay, Good Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 June 2009

While certainly not the Four Seasons, Hotel St. Georges did the trick for two budget travellers in the highly overpriced city of Zurich.. Cozy hotel, well maintained rooms, walking distance from city center, continental breakfast included. All in all, a good value low key option.

“Not a bad hotel, though service could be better and location is not great”

Rooms are simple and liveable for the price paid. However, if you're intending to walk, the hotel is about 20min walk from the hauptbahnhof and 15min walk from paradeplatz. The service is also not great, it was hard to elicit much information from the desk staff and the 3 hotel staff we came across either didn't speak english or didn't speak it very well. the neighbourhood is certainly very quiet if that's what you're looking for.

Dear Guest, we do speak English, French and German at the reception desk at any time. Our quiet hotel is just a five minute tram ride away from the Zurich main train station in the middle of town near Stauffacher square. Any desired destination within Zurich is easily accessible either by walking or taking public transportation. Of course we would be at your service to call you a taxi anytime during reception hours from 7 am to 23:30 pm or assist you in any other matter.

“Get what you pay for”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 April 2009

Stayed 1 night for 166CHF, which was pretty much £100 on the day which told me, for what I got, how rediculously expensive this town was. The room was a square with a bed in it, as well as the bathroom sink, with the shower and toilet in the bathroom. It had a tacky lino floor and the tv was so small yet so high it was unwatcheable. The 'buffet breakfast' was a piece of Swiss bread and jam, no toast or even cereal.

The location was alright as it wasn't too far from the tram stop - there isn't much else in the area, one review I just read said in the heart of the old town which is categorically wrong. Thankfully I was there for Easter Monday as there appeared to be roadworks going on so it would probably make for a noisy wake up call. At the same time I was there for Easter Monday and everything was shut, even the souvenir stores. This was annoying as being the end of our trip we intended to buy most of our things. I would say not to just stay somewhere else but don't even go to Zurich as it has absolutely nothing. See the Rhine falls and head elsewhere.
