“Good Location - But you get what you pay for”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2012

My wife and I stayed one night, just passing through Zurich.
It's very close to the Zurich HB Train station, a 5 minute walk, and it has a 24hr front desk.
The room was a little dank and smelled musty. The beds were too small for me (I'm 6 foot 2 inches) and the staff seemed surly, but did help me when I asked for it.
For about £100 a night, it's one of the cheapest places close to the train station. I'd recommend this place only if you were passing through.

“Great ideal Location for tourists”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 December 2011

The location is great, as in it is absolutely close to the Bahnhofstarsse at Zurich. Most of the Trams come right below the Hotel. The room was nice and spacious. The only downside was the noise that used to disturb us in the mornings but I guess that's the price we pay for being so centrally located. Great price too.

Room Tip: Ask for the rooms on the back side of the building.

“Good enough for a short stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 December 2011

Once again I must congratulate TripAdvisor on their service. After sorting the wheat from the chaff (either the 'friends' of the hotel that just do one review; or the 'enemies' who aren't objective at all) it really is fantastic. Take my recent stay(s) at the Limmathof: I knew exactly what I was going to get thanks to some very useful reviews. Iain115's recent one sums up what I found as well. My only problem is I forgot to ask for a 'quiet' room (like someone else had suggested) at the back of the hotel. I was too busy phoning for a non-smoking room to remember this (I'm a man. I can't multitask!). I realised my mistake one minute after entering the rather warm room 5 I was allocated at the front when I opened the window, and to their credit, the hotel moved me very quickly to a quieter one overlooking the interior service shaft. I wasn't worried about the lack of view as I avoided the (very) noisy tram stop outside the hotel. My only gripe about the room would be the short beds - I'm six foot four (1.93 m) tall so the wooden rail at the bottom of the bed was a bit of a pain in more ways than one. While this is probably too much detail, it might be important for other long people. The TV is mainly French-German so for language-challenged poms like me you must get to love CNN which can be very difficult. As I said in another review, this means putting up with the BBC rejects Quest and Becky plus the 'acceptable' Piers Morgan, but I suppose it is something to watch. As I was there for work it wasn't a major worry. I didn't have time to test their breakfast, although I do need to warn any McDonalds lovers that - unlike the UK - they only open the one near the station at 08:00 which was no good for me as I was travelling out of town to work. I think the main thing to realise is that the Swiss Franc is incredibly expensive these days (for example, in 2004 it was CHF2.20 to the pound, now its only 1.70!) so comparisons are odious in the extreme. It still hurts to have to pay six quid for coffee and a doughnut at the station though! Also, the wifi doesn't necessarily work so well in the bedrooms (particularly if you have selfish people downloading massive files) and you'll have to go to the lounge where the quality is good. Mind you the alternative of paying your UK provider ridiculous amounts for roaming internet access is too ghastly to contemplate so a trip to the lounge is no problem for free use!

Room Tip: Make sure you ask for a non-smoking room in the inside of the building (for noise considerations).

“Looking for inexpensive clean accommodation in the centre of Zurich?”

This is now my second stay at The Limmathof in Zurich. This hotel is 5 mins walk from the station and close to restaurants, bars and the great stores/shops that Zurich has to offer. Overall the hotel is very clean and comfortable, although it is basic if you are looking for simple Bed & Breakfast then this is perfect. The guys at Reception are very helpful and speak English.Noise can be an issue as there is a main road at the front and back of the hotel but pull the shutter down and close the window and you will be fine. Internet access is accessible in the rooms which is good.

Room Tip: Rooms on the top floor are quiet (as in few people passing your bedroom door) although these may onl...
