I read the reviews of the Zic Zac Rock Hotel and expected it to be horrible but when I got there I was pretty suprised. While it is by no means a fancy hotel the desk staff were very nice the room was clean and the shared bathrooms were not a problem. However, the price was a bit steep, but it is in Zurich so there is no suprise there. My only complaint was that my room really reeked of cigarettes no matter how long we left the window open and one of the sinks didn't really drain properly.

I also thought the breakfast was pretty decent for 5CHF you can get two large (warm) crossants and a cup of coffee. Seeing how everything in Switzerland is hugly expensive this was a fantastic deal that filled me up through lunch. Also, the hotel was quite, not what you expect from a budget, hostel-like, accomidation.

Overall I think that it was a nice place to stay for a shorter visit but probably would not want to spend more than three or four nights there, mostly due to the cigarette smell.

I stayed for 1 night in the Zig Zac Rock Hotel as part of my interailing and despite the negative reviews on Trip Advisor. I found the service to be very good. The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. They were particulary great with giving the cheesey tourist advise for someone who had not researched Zurich. I arrived in late for check in 11:30pm the night before and they were completely cool with it. My room was small and basic, but I found it be very clean.. If your the type of person just interested in having a roof over your head and a good sleep. Then this is your place. The Zig Zac hotel also has a superb location.. Right middle of the old historic part of the city. So you are right next to some cool shops, restuarants and beautiful scenery.. Zurich is an expensive city anyhow. But I must say I found my stay in the Zig Zac hotel to be very enjoyable.. :)

My friend and I planned a trip a few years back, and ended up in Zurich late one night with no hotel reservation. This hotel was recommended to us by an agent at a tourism kiosk.

We stayed in the 'Supertramp' room. It was filthy. The bathroom fixtures were covered in mold, and there was fecal matter (yay!) left in the toilet. It took us only about 2 minutes to gather our belongings, and checked out of this hotel.

I will say this though, this place is cheap, and Zurich is ridiculously a expensive city. This hotel is perfect for those who simply need a place to crash in a central location., and aren't too picky about cleanliness. I myself could not stay here, but I could see how it could be appealing to others.

BTW, we ended up staying at a youth hostels, and it was a far superior experience to what we had seen at the Zig Zag.

Avoid this at any cost. All rooms are smoking and do smell like! You can not escape the smell and your clothes, pillow, blanket...everything will smell. Hotel in need of serious renovation. Cueue to shower since 7 am. Dark dark place. Dodgy small toilet with no lock. 1 toilet in 2 floors. Do not spoil your stay in Zurich by choosing this hotel!
