“Great downtown lacation”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 March 2011

This was a delightful small hotel located in the heart of town. The restaurant was also great. Close to train station. We took a cab because we were not sure where it was. I am glad we did as we probably wuld have walked right by it as it is above the restaurant Was an easy walk to the train station in the morn as we knew where we were going then.
It was a little noisy at night as it was right downtown

“great, livley location; good service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 July 2010

Stayed over the weekend at the franziskaner hotel. the rooms are spotless and each individually decorated. we arrived in the morning and were able to check into our room straight away. as most rooms were just cleaned and the doors open we could sneak a view into several of them, and they are all nice. there are 2 suites on the top floor which come with a private rooftop terrace with sun lounges. the breakfast buffet included various coissants, white and wholemeal bread, a selection of jam, honey, cheese and cold meat, yogurt and a gorgeous swiss "bichermüesli".
the location as such is great as it is slap bang in the middle of "niederdorf" (old town) with plenty of restaurants, cafes, bars and shops. however, the only downfall is that the rooms do get very hot in summer, and the fan provided does not ease it really. keeping the window open would help, but the noise of partying people echoing in the small square right into the early hours of the morning really makes it impossible to keep the windows open.

“Great, but...”

Neat little hotel. One of the cleanest I have ever stayed in and the staff is super. Only problem, if it is the warm time of the year, there is no air conditioning and at night you have to keep the windows open with most of the rooms over a small platz or outside tables of restaurants. Noise when it is warm continues to 2 or 3 am. Best time is in the cool months.

“So-so”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 October 2009

We stayed in this hotel for three nights. We chose it for its location: walking distance to almost everything including a public indoor parking. It is located in a small alley in the heart of the "altstadt". It is closed to a large variety of restaurants: Italian, Swiss, Mexican, Turkish, Chinese, German, and yes, even McDonald's! There are also a number of nite clubs, bars, clothing and accessories shops. The river is a couple of blocks away, and downtown is a walking distance as well. The room is typical of European hotels, small but efficient and clean. We got one of the bigger rooms that came with a couch. The room was cleaned everyday, and we got fresh towels daily. Oh, and they have face towels!!!! A little treat especially because these are never available in most European hotels. There's not much selection for breakfast; in fact, there's hardly any food available! It tends to be very noisy at night, but if you close the windows, it is not that bad. The room also gets so hot, but you can request for a mini electric fan, which is sufficient to cool the room. The mini bar is stocked but the prices are very expensive. If you leave your laptop at home, they have one available by the reception area, but the connection is VERY slow, so don't bother. The elevator is so small, if you have some luggage, only one person could fit (with your bags).
