“Great views and great location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 December 2011

We loved our room - we paid up for lake views and they were incredible. European hotel rooms can be quite small - ours was large with high ceilings and a great shower. The furnishings were nice but simple, as opposed to deluxe, but the mattress was firm and the linens were top notch so we got a great night's sleep. The fitness room is small but usable. We never ate there - get breakfast at a nearby cafe for 1/3 the price! We didn't need any service, but the front desk was always polite. We walked from the hotel lawn onto the quai - following it until we reached Chateau Chillon. A beautiful walk and a great destination.

Room Tip: Pay up for the lake view!

“Disgraceful, arrogant behaviour”

My wife and I booked and paid for in advance a one night stay in a deluxe double room at this hotel and arranged for eight friends flying from England to meet us there the following morning before travelling with them in convoy to our ski chalet.

We were greeted by an unapologetic receptionist who informed us that we were double booked and must stay elsewhere. We were instructed to proceed to their sister hotel 'Grand Hotel Excelsior' where we were promised a suite with a lake view. What we received was an unfinished suite lacking appropriate furniture, a faulty telephone, a coffee machine which could not be made to work even by Housekeeping, a temporary, insecure, cracked glass door to the shabby area outside on the lowest level which was still being painted and renovated. The lake view we were promised we did not have as it was obstructed by scrub and bins.

The evening meal was twice the price and not half as good as we had enjoyed in a small two star hotel the night before in France.

I booked through Expedia who failed to print my review. I wrote personally to the owner/proprietor? of the two properties, a Mr Egli but did not receive a reply. I thought that was as much as I could do to vent my frustration but have only just become aware that I can send a review through Tripadvisor. I have to include a date for our experience so have chosen Sept 2011 because the review procedure does not allow the actual earlier date of the trip which took place in September 2009.

I found nothing whatsoever to commend either of these two hotels in any respect.

Room Tip: From our experience, you would be strongly advised to stay elsewhere.

“Charming Belle époque with spectacular location/view”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 November 2011

We presently live not very far from Montreux, but nevertheless we now and then spend a day or two at beautiful Eden. If we one day will move away from this priviliged corner of Europe, we will for sure spend vacations at this hotel.
There are basically three things that make this hotel unique:
- Location,
- the “Belle époque” style
- a wonderful outside swimming pool surrounded by palms and rosebushes.
During the Summer season the latter (laying at the pool, 10 meters from the lake, looking at the impressive mountains in the background) is, for us, reason enough for choosing Eden.

During Summer season most of the guest seem to be British, Americans and some from the Middle East. It is “something British” about the entire place (was it perhaps originally build for/by Brits?)

It is true, as some reviews comment, than not everything is newly and perfectly renovated.
In my mind this is more in the category of “charming” though (this IS an “historic” building) and things are CLEAN.
For those who demand a “clinically perfect” building, I would recommend looking elsewhere.

I would recommend the hotel management to fine-tune their booking department somewhat (be a little faster in answering e-mail booking requests, note requests for specific rooms etc), but this is a very minor issue and the staff is generally very skilled, helpful and flexible (it e.g. took them about 10 seconds to provide for a perfect solution for my ad-hoc request for a place inside the hotel where my unreasonably expensive race bike would be absolutely secure for the night).

Somewhat sad is that some guests (seemingly East Europeans/Germans) seem to regard colourful trainers, shorts, flip-flops, and other camper’s style dressing as appropriate for the beautiful breakfast room. Contrary to top hotels e.g. in UK, hotels in Switzerland do (unfortunately) not dare to discreetly bringing to such people’s attention that this is not a place for them....

Nothing is cheap in the top location of Montreux (obviously), but the prices at Eden are very fair indeed.
=> If one likes charming genuine “old style” and if location is a main criterion, I cannot think of a better hotel than this.

“Good hotel in a great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 November 2011

Stayed at Eden Palace for two nights in late October 2011. At check-in we were informed we had received a complimentary upgrade to a lake-view room. Hotel staff were friendly and helpful. Room and bathroom were large and in excellent condition, view from the balcony spectacular.
Breakfast was held in a large ornately decorated room adjacent to check-in, while lunch is held in a restaurant downstairs and on a terrace next to Lake Geneva for alfresco dining, We took advantage of the stunning weather and had lunch on the terrace, with great views of the lake and passers-by. Food and service were fine, although being the off-season there were few diners.
Hotel is close to shopping and CBD.
Would definitely return for another stay.

“A beautiful Tradition”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 November 2011

Its all about Location location location. 50% of the rooms have the most spectacular, unhindered view of the Lake and the mountains beyond. One can never get tired and looking at the view. Nest to the Hotel is the Casino for entertainment-(dont forget to take a photo id there!)
The Lake side Rooms have petite Balconys where one can sit for hours and relax with a cup of tea or a glass of wine!
Rooms are exquisitely decorated , clean and adequately spacious. Tariff includes a Buffet Breakfast in fantastic antique Ball room!!
Being next to the lake, a walk in the morning is envigorating. Staff are polite and helpful.
Its next to a commercial centre, Post office and a bank. Parking space is available and Zurcher a famous Patisserie is just round the corner. The Station is an 8 minute walk!

Room Tip: Take a room above 4th floor and on the lake side its worth it!
