We just wrapped up a memorable trip to Europe, which included 4 nights with the Bella Vista and Family Goetzenberger. We managed to be in Zermatt during a major snow storm which forced the closure of the Matterhorn bahn. As a result, we were lucky enough to stay at Bella Vista for an additional night. While the hotel was fully booked on the last night, the family afforded us the last night at a very reasonable rate in one of the rooms at their Chalet. During the first 3 nights of our stay, we were in Room 2 of the hotel, which offered great views of the town and Matterhorn when the snow wasn't flying. The room was very clean and well laid out, though I would recommend asking for an extra blanket if you are used to softer beds. The breakfasts were very nice with local products and a cool juice machine which allowed for squeezing fresh orange juice. When the runs to the resort are open (which they were during our visit), the location of Bella Vista offers ski in directly to the hotel and the Sunnega lift is about a 5 minute walk. Or, you can ski for 10-15 minutes around the long way to the lift.
Overall, we were very pleased with the hospitality of the Family and the enjoyment we got from Zermatt by staying at Bella Vista. And most importantly, accomodating our extra night due to the storm.
If you're headed skiing to Zermatt the rest of the Winter, it should be incredible as long as the wind stays down.
