“One of the best hotels in Zermatt”

Hotel Berghof is one of the best in Zermatt. The location is favourable for skiers as it takes about 2 mins to walk to the lift station. The only disadvantage location-wise is, that it is approx 20mins away from the main street called Bahnhofstrasse. Since there are many taxis available at any time, even this little disadvantage is not an issue. The Hotel itself is very clean and build nicely with lots of wood and a very homey atmosphere. The owners family treats guests like their own family which makes them the nicest hotel patrons in Zermatt I would say. The rooms are spacious, clean and price/value is one of the best you can get in Zermatt. The breakfast buffet is nicely prepared with lots of food, for every culture/taste something to find. Even dinner's are almost a must in that well served delicious restaurant.

“The perfect address in Zermatt Switzerland”

My husband and I cannot say enough good about this hotel. We have been lucky enought to have stayed here many times, and cannot imagine being in Zermatt at any other hotel. Franz and Regina are wonderful hosts, and go out of their way to make sure their guests are comfortable, and happy. Everything about the hotel is like a fairytale. It's location at the far end of town is wonderful, because it is quiet, and it necessitates a wonderful walk to and from the village center (not a long walk) that allows you to enjoy the village and it's clean fresh air....which is one of the main reasons you're here anyway! Many rooms have clear views of the Matterhorn......which Franz graciously provided us with this trip, even though we came without a reservation. You cannot really enjoy all that Zermatt has to offer without a stay at this wonderful "home away from home". We would never stay anywhere else again.....Five Stars don't buy you a peaceful night....even in Zermatt!!

“Best the location in Zermatt for Skier and Exquisite Food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2008

We had fantastic ski holiday in Zermatt recently. 12 nights in Berghof made huge difference for our holiday.

We found this hotel via internet search and booked direct with the hotel. The location seemed perfect for our need. We always like to stay closest possible to the ski lift so we don't have walk or take bus with our ski gear. We were so pleased when we arrived and praised ourselves for finding the place.

The hotel is literary right next to the Klein Matterhorn cable car (After couple of days of walking down ~30m of stiff hill to cable car station, we found the side door to the cable car building is less than 10 steps away) which gives you easy access to all ski area of Zermatt and Cervinia, Italy. It was also easy walk down (less than 10 minute) to the town centre but this wasn’t necessary often for us as we had half board which include 5 course gourmet dinner meal every night. Menu changes everyday, it was kind of exciting to wait for the dinner time every night. Meal would typically consisted with starter, soup, salad from salad bar, choice of main meal (2 options) and choice of dessert (2 options) which were all delicious and exquisitely presented.

Buffet breakfast was excellent too, with a dozen choices of bread, variety of fruit, cheese, cold cuts, cereals, home made jams and our absolute favourite - bircher-muslie. They also served excellent coffee (and hot chocolate for our son) every morning.

We choose to stay junior suit which was fraction more than normal double room as we have a 12 old son. The room was very spacious and uncluttered, enough room for extra bed, very clean bathroom with heated floor, big balcony with great view and nice fire place.

Ski storage area is well organised, each room has own designated cabinet for skies and enough heated boot rack for every guest.

Staff and owner were friendly but not intrusive. We were very happy and satisfied with the Hotel Berghof and we would definitely go back to Berghof.

We would recommend Hotel Berghof to anyone who like to stay close to the ski lift and enjoy fine dining style meal.

“This Hotel is Worth the Trip!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 April 2007

Hotel Berghof is a small, family-run Swiss Chalet, situated about 50 yards from the base of one of the main ski lifts in Zermatt. The location is a short walk (20 - 30 minutes) from the center of town, so the area around the hotel is pretty quiet, even though it is close to the lift. The whole hotel is cozy and well-appointed, with just the right mix of "rustic mountain" and understated elegance, and the price is a great value. Our rooms were large, by European standards, the staff was very friendly and helpful in every way.

Dining, for both breakfast and dinner, is typically included in the rates, and while there are several very good restaurants in Zermatt, you will be tempted to eat every meal at the hotel. The breakfast buffet is generous and well-prepared. In our case, when we wanted to eat "out" on any evening, we just let them know earlier in the day, and they deducted the meal cost from our bill. The quality of the food and wine is first-rate, and the price, for comparable food in Zermatt, can't be beat.

They have a nice bar/lounge for relaxing in front of the fire at the end of a long day. One of the nicest features is the spa/pool area. The whole pool/spa facility is indoors, very new and clean, with a nice-sized pool, dry sauna, steam room, etc.

We have traveled to many places around the world, and stayed at several of the major ski areas in the US, and Hotel Berghof is hands-down the best place we have ever stayed on a ski holiday, and one of the best, period. I'm always nervous about booking a hotel (as I did in this case) based upon internet info and the hotel's own website, but this hotel exceeded our expectations and made our whole trip enjoyable.

If you have been to Zermatt, or are looking at info on the area, you probably know by now that it isn't the easiest place in the world to get to, but this hotel alone makes it worth the effort. We went there on a ski holiday, but hope to return for a summer holiday also.

Cautions - If you are traveling with small children or teenagers, and/or want to be in the middle of the "action" in Zermatt, this may not be the place for you, but if you want a quieter location with easy access to the action, this place could be perfect. My wife has a mild disability, which limits her ability to walk long distances, but she was able to make several trips on foot into the center of the village, and when she wasn't up to the walk, we always arranged for one of the local taxis to take us where we wanted to go. There is, however, a bit of an incline from the street up to the hotel entrance, which can't always be navigated by vehicle in the winter, so it was fortunate for us that she was at least able to make that sometimes-slippery hike (30 yards or so) up the hill. If her disability had been more severe, this would have seriously limited her mobility.
