“Great place to stay but owner Gabriel, mean to staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2011

Nice place to stay with good breakfast next door at their pricier sister hotel "Metropol". Price was very favorable relative to other options in Zermatt. Great central location and comfortable albiet small room. Franziska, one of the owners was very friendly, engaging and helpful. Her husband, Gabriel, was OK though curt to hotel guests BUT A SURLY JERK TO HOTEL STAFF. We saw him berate and belittle his staff (and wife) on several occasions in our short stay there. I recommend it as a economical place to stay but was disheartened to see how lousy and discourteously Gabriel treated his employees (I sensed they feared him). His treatment of staff left an uneasy feeling and tension to an otherwise very nice stay.

“Not bad for the price I paid”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 November 2010

Nice staff, but the room was realllly tiny. Separate toilet and shower. There's a tap and mirror in the room. Couldn't open luggage fully in the room. Hotel is a couple of minutes walk from the train station, reachable after calling hotel staff for instructions. Hotel is up a few steps so pretty difficult with a luggage...

“Great Value Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 August 2010

Alfa Zermatt is fantastic value for money. The decor is fairly old, but the rooms are spotlessly clean. The service is fantastic. It's a fairly short stroll from the train station, we managed to find it without a map. Some services, such as breakfast, are offered by the more upmarket hotel next door, so the quality was first rate there. The view of Matterhorn from our room was worth the price alone. I'd stay here again if I ever returned to Zermatt.

“central hotel close to the train station”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 June 2010

We went to Zermatt to take the Glacier train to Chur. Zermatt is a car-free zone, it therefore was very convenient that the Hotel was within easy walking distance of the train station. We were there beginning of June, i.e. before the main season began. Possibly as a result, the reception at the Hotel was not occupied. However, we saw the sign to go to the Hotel next door. Their receptionist came over to our Hotel and checked us in. The rooms were great, comfortable and clean. We had a room with a view of the Matterhorn and a balcony, but unfortunately it rained and the Matterhorn remained a myth. The breakfast (also in the Hotel next door) was the best I have had in a long time. I do not know how the Hotel is during the main season when its own restaurant/ bar is open and breakfast is served there. However, the Hotel next door is very close by, only about 50 feet, and it was no major hassle to go there for questions or breakfast.
