“Excellent hotel which lived up to it's reviews”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 September 2011

We stayed at the Bellerive after seeing the reviews on Trip Advisor and it lived up to our expectations. The property is a small but first class establishment in the heart of old Zermatt, so just across the river from the main part of town where the station is.

Zermatt is a car free destination. If arriving by car you drive as far as the park and ride facility at Tasch and from there catch a shuttle train into Zermatt. At Zermatt station you'll see a whole range of electric vehicles there meeting each train. They are like large golf carts and they either belong to the hotels or serve as taxis for hire. If you request it then your hotel will meet your train in one of these little vehicles. With the Bellerive, unless you have a lot of luggage then it's an easy 10 minute walk. Just go up the main street from the station and turn left by the Matterhorn Museum to the bridge over the river. The hotel is on the left not long after you cross the river.

The hotel is traditional in style from the outside but has been nicely renovated inside without loosing all of the traditional appeal. We stayed in a double room on the front side of the property and from the balcony we had a perfect view of The Matterhorn. I have seen some reviews that say it can be noisy on the front which is on the road. But at night it seemed very quiet to us. The room itself was not overly big but it was well laid out and nicely furnished. It looked like they had recently upgraded to new flat screen TV's complete with an enormous amount of cable channels from right across Europe. The room also had a DVD player and the hotel carries a free DVD library of many hundreds of titles. The bathroom was small and the shower was a little cosy. But for two adults it was fine, the only minor grumble was that hot water in the evening in the shower wasn't that hot.

The hotel doesn't have it's own restuarant but it does serve breakfast which is a nicely laid out hot and cold buffet with coffee's made to order. While no restaurant in the evenings they do have a well stocked bar and the reception staff will happily serve you drinks in front of the lobby's log fire.

There is a wellness centre in the basement with a hot tub, steam and sauna rooms. There is free internet throughout the hotel and in the rooms with a guest computer terminal available in the lobby.

The welcome at the hotel was warm and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. We stayed for two nights, couldn't fault the experience and so I think we'd return without hesitation.

“Gorgeous Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 July 2011

We stayed for two nights in a Junior Suite - what a beautiful room! We felt totally spoiled. Very large and comfortable room, with a luxury bath in one corner, walk in shower in another, and a large sofa to lounge on and watch TV. The room was immaculately clean - everything new and fresh. Solid oak floors and good quality finishings everywhere - The weather for July was very poor - cold and raining - so we borrowed a DVD to watch each evening on the big flat screen TV, and the hotel was heated and cosy. Lovely breakfast, which is served in the conservatory/bar area at the front of the hotel - I imagine that in hot weather you could eat outside in the small garden. Staying here is not cheap, but then it compares favourably with the prices at Swiss hotels generally, and it really was a lovely stay. Oh, and the Bellerive is right in the heart of Zermatt. One reviewer mentions they had to get a taxi from the station, but we were picked up and dropped off again by a member of staff with no problems - you just have to give them a call upon arrival.

“Great hotel, great service.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 July 2011

On arrival at the train station, we were able to use the free phone service to ring the Bellerive reception and arrange a free transfer by taxi to the hotel. From the time our bags were taken into the hotel from the taxi, to when we were delivered back to the train station the next day, we were treated extremely well. The people at reception could not do enough for us.

Our room was very comfortable. It was at the front of the hotel and the balcony looked out onto the view of the Matterhorn - very impressive. Everything we needed was provided, and when we went to reception to ask for a coffee, we were given one.

This is an excellent hotel.

“good service, quiet and comfortable”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 July 2011

The hotel is 10 minutes from the railway station. You can call them to pick you up when arrived in Zermatt. The reception in the front desk is very helpful and friendly. Highly recommended.

The hotel is located next to a bridge in front of the church, and is a superb location to view sunrise shining on Matterhorn. more than 100 people do this every morning.

“A perfect stay.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 June 2011

My husband and I stayed at the Bellerive for the weekend and had a perfect stay. The staff were friendly and helpful with plans, restaurant suggestions, etc. Our double room was very clean, had hardwood floors and a nice balcony that overlooked the Matterhorn. The breakfast was great with eggs, sausage, bacon, tomatoes, oatmeal, fruit salad, breads and a selection of cheeses. We highly recommend this hotel.
