We just spent 9 days at new year at La Ginabelle. We have been going to Zermatt for 10 years now staying in a variety of 4 and 5 star hotels. There was five of us, myself, my wife and three kids, 1, 4, and 7 years old. it is well positioned beside the river, only 5 mins walk from the village, but in a quiete location. The Cheese bus stops right outside the front door. The hotel is medium sized, and very nicely furnished and cosy. The public areas especially the dining room are really nice traditional places to be.
Our adjoining bedrooms were refurbished in a modern style. It was not our taste to be honest, we would book traditional rooms in future.
The half board dinner was lovely, although it did take a while to get through it some nights with so many courses.
The new spa is beautiful and well worth a visit.
Where this place wins, is for kids. It has a bespoke playroom manned up with trained girls to look after kids over 2 1/2 years old. The girls were really good and the kids could have dinner there at night and also lunch if they are not skiing.
The great thing is that they can move about the hotel from playroom to dining room and bedroom with safety and you are not worried about them.
As you dine ,they can visit you in the dining room and then go back to the playroom.
Moreover it is a very relaxed atmosphere where nobody scowls at you or your kids if there is the odd noise or some running, like you get with a lot of other hotels of this standard, so you dont get uptight at all.
In short, if you want an upmarket hotel in Zermatt to go to with young kids and have a relaxing time, this is it!
