I was with my son in Zermatt who is 3 years old. He very urgently needed to go to toilet. The receptionist did not allow us to go to the toilet as we were not clients at the hotel . She then wanted 2 Francs to let him go to the toilet. As we had just arrived at the trainstation we had no money available and I was not able to give her 2 Francs. She had no compassion adn did send us away. I have never exirienced such an child unfriendly behaviour somewhere else!!!

Stayed at the Gornegrat in February 2010 with a large group of friends and family. We arrived very late at night after reception was closed our keys where left in the reception and bread, cheese, ham and water was waiting in our rooms, as it was also to late to get any food in Zermatt by this time. The rooms where a bit on the small side and the decor was dated, but it was clean and personally I don't feel like i need a big room when I'm out skiing all dayt. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was very nice with the possibility of ordering hot food. The four course dinner included in the price was excellent. The location couldn't be much better, close to all the things you might need.

I've stayed on and off at the Gornergrat for the last 12 years, but have never got round to sending a review.
The Gornergrat has the ideal position in Zermatt. It is 50M from the railway station, 50 M from the gorergrat railway, 50 M from the bus at a stop where it is possible to get on and 5 minutes walk from the Sonnega express.
The hotel rooms are basic, small and comfortable, but who needs large rooms on a ski trip. The food is good, service friendly, and now that the bar has been expanded and is non-smoking, it is possible to enjoy an evening in.
The sauna is good for relaxing apres ski, and the spots in the village are not far.
For value and location I can certainly recommend.

We had a large group stay at the Gornergrat. The staff was friendly and the rooms were very clean and the beds very comfortable. The food was good and breakfast consisted of cereals and cheeses. Eggs would have been nice but there was plenty to eat. Dinner was from 7:00 until 9:00 with a 4 course meal. Food was good. The hotel has a bar in front, but it is closed off from the hotel and doesn't really affect the hotel. It has a separate entrance. The rugs in the hallway were worn, but that is understandable with all the ski boot traffic. The hotel is right in the middle of everything and with no car traffic, it makes it very easy to get to the trains to go up the mountains ar from arriving from Tasch, just walk across the street and you are there. For a 3 star hotel it performed very well. Dan
