We arrived in Zermatt having no reservation and on a busy day, and proceeded to scout out the hotel situation. Surprise, surprise...after walking all over town and visiting the tourist office, this hotel stood right across from the train station and had the best deal going for us. It was 156 Swiss Francs for two with breakfast, and by Zermatt standards that is only slightly more than a youth hostel! The staff spoke English to an excellent level and were very professional, the hotel was clean and comfortable, and some of the rooms give you a triple view: the train station square (people watching), the main street leading up the hill, and most importantly: THE MATTERHORN! I'm very surprised this hotel isn't rated higher on the Zermatt hotel list, I have no complaints at all. It is not a five-star hotel by any stretch, but its location, cleanliness and service, and value for money make it a solid recommendation from me.
