“Great family run hotel in the best traditions”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2011

Family run hotel in spread over several buildings, fantastic views and a deeply quiet and peaceful location; 5 stars for sleep quality. I've stayed three times now, Aug '10, Oct '10 and again in Nov. '10 and will be sure to go back if I ski in Zermatt again. The walk into town takes about 20 minutes and the Matterhorn express gondola is a 10 minute walk downhill. Plenty of space for servicing skis in or just outside the ski room. Internet connection is a bit iffy when busy and you may need to ask reception to reboot their router from time to time. The food in the restaurant is of a high quality and plentiful, the chefs bring seconds from time to time, you won't go hungry.

“Great service in ideal skiing location in Zermatt”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2011

Arranged a trip over New Years Eve for 3 days in Zermatt. Hotel staff very accommodating for any special request. On arrival from train station, you contact the hotel from the central phone and they come and pick you up in an electric car, only about 10 minutes wait. They also arrange to return you back. We arrived early in the morning, so they held luggage and then was in the room when we checked back later.

Location is a bit on the far end of Zermatt (about 15-20 minutes walk to city centre), but only a 5 minute walk to the ideal ski lift up to Klein Matterhorn. Hotel web-site gives directions to nearest ski rental location.

Hotel food was very good, although a couple of things not to my personal liking but cooked very well. We had half-board arrangements, so breakfast/dinner was included each day. New Years Eve dinner was an additional add-on surcharge, but started as early as 7pm and continued to 11:30pm, including lobster, sushi, chateaubriand/roast beef, and a whole slew of other courses. Desserts were tasty but light after usually heavy meals. Breakfast was standard savory German-speaking country fare: various breads, cheeses, hams/salamis, with scrambled eggs and not-so-crispy bacon. No sweet rolls/croissants, but I'm familiar with this. Good selection of wines, including some local Swiss white/red wines (Johannisberg white and another pinot noir selection were nice light options for a late meal).

Hotel room was reasonable size, small bathroom with shower, but sink/prep area was in the main area of the room. Hotel provided comfy duvets, thick to handle any cold air, but the room temperature was very toasty so little need for the thick duvet. Hotel just recently added a wellness/sauna area in December (open daily 3pm-8pm)....it is a 10-step walk from the front door to an elevator to take you down to the entrance. Usage is free to all hotel guests, but add-ons charge for massages and other treatments. Sauna area has whirlpool (lukewarm, not hot, but still good), dry sauna, bio-sauna, wet sauna, feet whirlpool, showers, and "cold water" dump area (for an invigorating eye-opening experience after getting all warmed up). Area was very clean and nice-looking but off-limits for children as it is co-ed and clothing-optional (most users were naked).

Hotel staff are extremely friendly, very accommodating and able to answer any question. They worked with me to arrange a taxi service from hotel down to Visp, as we had to catch a 6am train for Geneva before the public trains started at 7am. Checkout is night before you leave and no issues with the final bill.

A very good location and a great host for a stay over the New Year.

“Friendly, picturesque, spotless hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 March 2010

We have just had a very pleasant 2 night stay at the Hemizeus, staying in the hotel rather than an appartment. The room was slightly small as was the bathroom, but both were adequate, my main problem with the hotel, hence only 3 stars, was that I found the bed very uncomfortable, the sheet was rough and had been washed so often that it had worn through and had a hole, the mattress was very hard, the pillow gave inadequate support and the mattress protector was just horribly bumpy!
The staff were excellent, however. There had been a mix up with our booking via Expedia but they sorted it out for us. The best meal of our 4 night stay in Switzerland was had here, I wish we had eaten here both nights. Transport to and from the station was included in the room rate, and was very efficient. It was a 15 min walk into the centre of Zermatt, not too far, there is also a bus stop nearby. We got a taxi back one evening at the night time rate - very expensive, and that was a shared taxi (26 CHF for a 10 min ride)
I liked the hotel very much, but I wouldn't stay here again because of the bed (yes I am fussy but I get a migraine if I can't sleep) It is a shame as everything else was so good.

“amazing view of Matterhorn, ski out easier than ski in”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 March 2010

Amazing location on the outskirts of town, quiet, you can still walk to all restaurants, cozy family atmosphere, yet private. Room had kitchen to cook at home (nice with the expensive restaurants) and breakfasts were great (eggs, meats, cereal, yogurt, granola, etc). Sauna rocked--best suana ever (steam sauna with eucalyptus). Pick up from train station and excellent service. Will definitely stay again.

“Hemizeus is Paradise in Zermatt”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 August 2009

What a great hotel with a fantastic restaurant! We stayed for 3 nights and that was the perfect amount of time to devote to Zermatt's incredible sights. The hotel is a 15-20 minute walk from the main village and sits on a lovely meadow with a spectacular view of the Matterhorn. The location could not be better! We had a nice double room with a balcony view of the Matterhorn that was simply breathtaking. The Italian family that run the hotel are wonderful people who are always there to help. The restaurant serves up mouth-watering steaks, fish and pasta. Try the Roasted Perch Filets or the Argentian Steak. Wonderful food!! Ask for Dimitri to be your waiter. He is super nice and speaks english quite well. With a an on-site restaurant that was so good, there was no need to walk down the hill to the main village for dinner. The hotel is also very close to the Klein Matterhorn lift. The hotel will pick you up at the main train station and take you up to their spectacular location. You will be blown away by the view!
