“One of my favorite towns....”

I booked this hotel by emailing them directly. They were very nice in their emails, and even gave me some info on where they are located and suggested places to eat.

The front desk staff was very friendly and helpful and made us feel comfortable there. She said the hotel was family owned and you could tell. The room and bathroom were very clean. The bathroom had a huge window, facing the wall of the building next door, but it wasn't a problem because there was also a huge balcony that overlooked the litte street below. Great place to people watch. :-) We did notice that were lots of mirrors in the room...weird. Also, the hall lights are on a timer so you need to find the switch to turn them on. It took us a while to figure that one out. LOL! They do have free internet in the lobby (swiss keyboard warning....slightly diff. than the US version) and the free breakfast was OK.

From the rail station, go right on the main street and go up the slight hill. The hotel will be up on your right side. It's only a few minute walk....if you start in the right direction. We wandered around for a while before we found it. HINT---it's NOT near the Darioli Tea Room that is right out in front of the rail station. :-)

This was one of our favorite hotels (my brother and I) because they were so nice here.....and we LOVED Zermatt!! WHEN I go back, I will definitely stay here again.

Feel free to ask questions if you have any, and don't forget to look at the pics!!

“Terrible staff, horrible hotel”

My sister & I stayed in Darioli Hotel on 6 Oct 2007 for one night but that was more than enough for us. It was the worst hotel I have stayed in during my entire 3-week trip across Switzerland & Italy. The reception lady was very grouchy during our check-in & didn't offered even a welcome smile. We asked for some hot water later that evening and was prepared to give a euro5 tip but she was so unfriendly we decided to keep the tip. The room we had faces the main street and it was very noisy. We heard loud voices (maybe from 5 - 6 people) shouting to each other & merry making at about 3.30am! It went on for about 15 mins & stopped. Then it started again at 4.45am. We couldn't sleep that night.
The room itself is very, very small and very basic - the sleep-and-go type. There was a attached balcony but not much use as it was very filthy. The toilet fortunately was a decent size & clean.
We paid CHF165 for the night without breakfast because it was the cheapest hotel we could find near the train station. But we actually found some very beautiful 4-star hotels away from the station for the same price or thereabouts which include a 5-course dinner and breakfast. Our advice to travellor is this: don't bother about staying near the train station - Zematt is very small and accessibility is definitely not a problem.

“Rude Hostess & Employees”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 May 2007

I am writing from the hotel right now. After reading the reviews i booked this hotel but i have to say that just because of the hostess and employees i will have to rate this hotel as my worst experience in Switzerland. The rooms are okay, TVs do not work and the employees are not friendly when you complain about it. Infact when we complain they say that it is not their problem (as if it is the fault of the guest after paying 185 francs for a room).

Just ignore this hotel when you visit Zermatt if you have any other option available.

first time i'm a bit affraid what hotel looks like? bc there are few reviews.

but when i opened the door i found it's good value for 3 star hotel
as you can see from my photos

I really like bathroom bc it's very clean

breakfast.....delicious

service...good to best

oh one good thing is that this hotel is near the ski/snowboard school and bayard(just for sale) and you can walk around 5 min from train station

i recommend to rent all ski/snowboard stuffs at Bayard opposite train stations (big and complete both ski set and clothes)

******************************************************************
anyway, the disadvantages are that

there is no storage room for keeping luggages after check out, however, all luggages still stay in the same place and not lost

the hotel is saved fire energy bc they all are closed automatically and you need to press them many times

“Wonderful hotel”

My family and I stayed at this lovely hotel a few weeks ago. We knew that our trip would be wonderful the moment we got on the train to Zermatt from Brig. The scenery was fantastic! So, it didn't matter where we stayed.
But, once we arrive at the hotel, our stay was made even more enjoyable by the hotel staff. The woman at the front desk maybe was the owner. She was very nice and beyond helpful.
Our room was wonderful. It was a little larger than a typical European room. The bathroom was big. Also, the plug is dual wattage so U.S. appliances will work there. However, a converter was also available to guests if needed.
My parents were in a corner room with a balcony that overlooked the street. It was wonderful to sit outside with a nice glass of wine enjoying the views.
The breakfast was plentiful and varied. There is also a computer with internet access which is quite convenient.
The location was very convenient. A short walk from the train station. The town itself is very compact. Most shops are located on the main street. But, if you walk on the other side of the river, there is more shopping.
Zermatt is a beautiful town, but food is quite expensive. To save a few bucks, we would buy water and snacks at the grocery store. When you come into town, you will see the COOP grocery store. We found cheaper grocery stores off the main street towards the river.
We enjoyed Zermatt very much.
