“Incredible hotel - highly recommended!”

I stayed at the Monte Rosa in summer of 2011 while on a hiking trip with my sister. Everything about the stay was perfect. The hotel itself is beautiful and well located, and the staff are very warm, engaging, and speak the Swiss trifecta of languages (plus English) wonderfully. Although the hotel does not have its own wellness center, guests have access to the spa and fitness center at the Mont Cervin hotel, five minutes away. It is well worth a visit and has convenient hours. For couples or groups of adults, this hotel has a wonderful atmosphere and the value is great. Five stars, absolutely.

Room Tip: Rooms on the 6th floor are newly renovated with a great view.

“Excellent boutique hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 June 2011

Excellent boutique hotel in the central pedestrian area. Great staff, cozy bar, large selection breakfast and can use the spa/pool facilities at the sister hotel.

“Home from home”

My wife and I spent 2 weeks at The Monte Rosa Hotel over Xmas 2010 and New Year 2011. We stayed in a mid-priced room on half board basis. We had previously stayed at The Monte Rosa over 5 successive holiday breaks. We returned because we were extremely satisfied with most aspects of this fine hotel.

First of all, it feels like a home away from home. The staff are all extremely friendly and being a relatively small property guests receive personalized service from those staff. It is an old building and recent renovations which have massively upgraded parts of the hotel have really brought out the historic aspects of the hotel’s fabric; exposing old timbers and granite structures.

Although small it has a grand hotel feel. The dining room is an exquisitely designed space as are several of the other common areas. The majority of diners dress for dinner. And there are historic reminders everywhere of the hotel’s central role in the initial conquering of the Matterhorn and the subsequent development of Zermatt as a winter sports center.

There is a new and lovely bar on the ground floor that is yet to find its character and the meals were all expertly prepared and served. Over the last several years my wife and I have noticed that the standard of service has improved.

The Monte Rosa is centrally located in Zermatt. This is good and bad. While it is handy for the churches, museums, shops, restaurants and bars, it is equidistant between the three main lift bases, and therefore a hefty walk or pricey cab ride from any of them. Not the end of the world – but a consideration.

Because it is a small property there is no space for a spa, although Monte Rosa guests have free access to the nearby Mont Cervin Hotel spa which is truly excellent. The Monte Rosa’s boot room is also extremely small – again a function of trying to fit masses of things into a historic building.

The staff really does deserve a mention. The General Manager was charm itself and did everything within her power to help us. The rest of the staff from the top notch Concierge through the Head Waiter to the Front Desk staff were also all excellent.

The Monte Rosa isn’t cheap. But, in my opinion it’s worth it. It’s a truly unique property in one of the loveliest resorts in the world. We will return.

“Perfect”

We traveled to Zermatt with our two teen aged daughters for a ski vacation, hoping for a cultural experience too, but not really knowing what to expect. It was fabulous - we loved this hotel! The service was great, it felt quaint and authentic, but at the same time up to date. The central location was perfect for restaurants, etc, although we chose to take taxis to the lifts. It is an expensive hotel in an expensive town but we had a fabulous stay.
We could not have asked for more.
