We stayed at the Backstage for a long weekend in February 2012. The hotel combines super style, great friendly service, fabulous amenities and a good location in town.
We (and another couple) were both in "cube" rooms, which are a fabulous, unique design. The centre of the room has a metal framed cube, the top of which is the sleeping area, and underneath are the shower/loo/bath. The set up enables a nice large sitting area as well. Room was fitted out with espresso machine, blu ray, mini bar, "fireplace" (solid fuel as kind of a gimmick), candles, adjustable mood lighting and all the usual essentials. Bed was comfortable and big. Towels were a little basic. Robe with hood was essential for the dash to the hot tub.
The amenities are great. The 7 station spa experience is really cutting edge. The hot tub provided a well needed soak after skiing.
Location is good but not perfect for skiing. Ski shop downstairs is helpful, but very expensive. It's a short but icy walk to the closest bus stop for the lifts, or the closest lift. If I had one improvement request it would be to run the hotel taxi/shuttle during the day to the ski lifts.
Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast spread was very nice, with all the usuals.
The hotel of course is only part of the building. Downstairs is the restaurant, club and cinema. You could never leave the building if you didn't want to!
