I tell you, this is a complete hole. The rooms are dated, the grounds have seen better days, and the whole place is in dire need of a total refurbishment. The hotel is isolated and cut off – fine if that is what you want, but as it is so grotty you will not find it the true oasis that you hoped to escape to, rather one you want to escape from each day, after you have eaten their buffet breakfast (acceptable but nothing to write home about). There are regular buses down to the centre of Lugano (takes about 20 minutes) but beware the last bus back is no later than 7pm-ish on weekdays and about 6pm on Sundays. After that it is a taxi (we just paid 80 Swiss francs – equivalent to £35). The food in the restaurant is good but it lacks atmosphere and you’re much better off eating in Lugano. What you save on the bus and taxi fares you could put towards staying somewhere nicer near the lake. OK the view high above the lake and surrounding mountains is good, but that’s all it has to recommend it. Oh and most of the staff are friendly. Andrea is particularly nice and helpful! However I saw one French woman complaining at reception and I think one (male) member of staff chose to deal with her very unprofessionally. Actually I saw quite a few people complaining. The wellness centre might have been good once…. in the 1970’s. Finally, pets are welcome here. Fine if you like dogs but I draw the line at having one sitting on an olds lady’s lap opposite me while I try to eat my lunch! I swear that the bedding has fleas too as I came away with flea bites on my legs!
